Is love in the air this Valentines day?

Written by Emma. Posted in Uncategorized

Valentines day is just around the corner and it is the day to show you care!  There are some lovely ways to show the husband or significant other just how much they mean to you and the shops are full of hearts and flowers.  I did a quick poll to see how important valentines day is to some of my favourite bloggers.  I admit Lee and I have always been very lazy about valentines day. We have very rarely bothered but I do like Emily’s suggestion that it is a great excuse to get the grandparents on babysitting duty so her husband and herself get a night out. If childcare is an issue, a meal with some etxra touches like candles suggested by Mari or share the love with Wendy’s a heart shaped cake idea.

Donna doesn’t go overboard but admit they do for their wedding anniversary, I agree that for me this day is far more important. It is also close to Kellys wedding anniversary and lil mans birthday so passes in a blur! Jane claims she is not a fan as it feels like an enforced day of romance, this view was shared by Kathryn who didn’t hold back with her view (I) Can’t be doing with it. It’s an excuse for florists to rip off the general public, card shops to hike up their prices and sell tack, and young kids to waste all their pocket money on some loser who hasn’t even noticed them! Rebecca also agreed about the commercialism but explained how they make homemade cards – I do like this idea, but then again she is crafty and I’m not!! Likewise Chelsea and her husband just do cards. Amanda made me go ahhh, as she recently found all the soppy cards her and the man have sent each other, Amanda also makes stuff for the kids. Maybe I should use my new letts notepad and write a love letter! I did think of Becky who has worked the past 12 valentines as a waitress, she too isn’t bothered by it – well on that day anyway.

Louise also ignores it but blames the husband for not being romantic so she has given up herself! I totally get this sentiment! Liz is in a quandary as she loves it but hubby doesn’t, maybe that’s why she asked if it is ok to make a valentines pressie for her bestie, knowing she will appreciate it. Oh and for the record the lovely Simone claims she is a cynic – however I know from previous conversations that this would change if there was a hottie on the scene! Hopefully this will be your year hunny!

Angie started off saying that its not important and we should show we love each other all year long, then she made me jealous sharing her plans of fine dining and weekends away at other times of the year. Mind you have have some fine Hotel Chocolat champayne truffles to dine on. They are totally yum, very decadent and made me feel special!

Maggy has also changed the rules and celebrates on a later date to avoid the commercialism aspect, her hubby is banned from buying overpriced flowers! For me chance would be a fine thing!! Carolin agrees there are 365 days in a year and you could / should be showing your love and appreciation on any given day. This is what my husband says and to be fair I do get surprise flowers every now and again. Suzanne agreed that neither her or husband are fans but she does get the kids chocolate. I am the same each of my three will have some choc hearts smuggled somewhere, for the older two it will be in lunchboxes and Erin will find some too!

Both Cass and Becky blew their frugal cover claiming they love valentines day and see it as a day to spoil thier other halves. Although I am sure they both do it a budgeting way! Maybe we could get some tips! Although maybe Jenny is trying to take their crown as she loves nothing more than a bunch of reduced flowers from a store starting with A and ending in I

Last word has to go to Donna who loves it as it is also her birthday and she gets double presents!

A lovely round up of everyone’s views on the day. My husband proposed on valentines day 18 years ago but to be honest we don’t make a big thing of the day, just a bit of fun! Wishing everyone a loving day!

There are so many different views on this and probably always will be! I for 1 think it’s a chance to get ripped of in a big way! We do get a card for each other and we normally try and include the kids although they are 12 and 14! We tend to try and make a meal where everyone is responsible for something and the kids seem to like it. As far as us as a couple this year my OH is working but doesn’t start until 12 so we are going to grab a breakfast out somewhere and that will be that! So have fun whatever you are all up to :) x

We don’t celebrate it as I have always thought that Valentines is for secret loves to reveal themselves. Not one day in the year for husbands to get ripped off! Popping over from ‘Blow Your Own Blog Horn’ x

I’m with Carolin, show your love all year! I also hate the way Valentines has become a bit of a competition for people to say, ‘look how much we love each other’. Birthdays, our wedding anniversay are the important days for us.

Just think of the pressure on the poor husbands to perform. 24 hour tescos never gets enough cards in. Plus the local petrol station sells out of flowers hours before :( . Popping over from blow your own blog horn.
