Saving the smartsave way.

Surviving the school holidays when on a budget takes a bit of creativity and good planning, but it can be done.  There are plenty of things we do as a family that cost very little including picnics in parks and  craft activities at home.  Although when you have a 12 year old and a 8 year old the expectations of outings and planned activities can run quite high.  Many children don’t seem to understand that these outings can soon add up unless you teach them the smartsave way.  Mine don’t seem to understand the concept of budgeting although Chloe has got much better since having to manage her own budget, she now has a set amount and if she wants to go swimming or to the cinema she has to pay for that.  For us though, day trips out are part and parcel of entertaining the children and these do cost. If we didn’t get out the boredom strikes and that just causes them to argue at home!  Having three children means that I am always looking for ways to save money on our day trips out, we do the usual like collecting any buy one get one free vouchers and swapping Tesco clubcard points for vouchers.  We love visiting London and have a weekend there planned soon.  Earlier in the year Dylan went to the London Dungeon with his dad which he really enjoyed, although he did find it quite terrifying in parts!  This time we shall be going to the Lollibop Festival in Regents Park but the children would like to finish off with a meal at Planet Hollywood.  For occasions like this there is a great way to save even more money. The smartsave website is a great way to find deals in London and local deals that save you money.  The site couldn’t be easier to use you simply print off the discount vouchers you want.  When I looked it was offering 20% of the total bill at Planet Hollywood – including drinks.  That is a great find and means that we can spoil the children without breaking the bank.  Quite frankly it annoys me if I go somewhere then find out afterwards I could have got it cheaper by doing a quick internet search.  It pays to be organised and its money back in your pocket plus the satisfaction of knowing you have had a great deal!
