Selling the olympic torch and uniform – is it right?

Written by Emma. Posted in Uncategorized

Would you sell the olympic torch? I suppose I shouldn’t really be surprised as people will sell anything and ebay just makes it even easier. However when I saw what they were selling for I was shocked.  One of the highest bids at the moment is for £130,000 on Ebay for the torch and uniform.

Many are claiming the money will go to their chosen charity, some are even donating a whooping 5% of the sale price to a charity!  The people chosen were nominated by someone else, for being inspirational, for outstanding achievement or bravery.  My question has that reputation been dirtied by selling the torch?

Why doesn’t it sit easy with me that these are being sold?  I guess these individuals didn’t envisage selling them initially, but now the value has been realised more will sell. I understand that the torch bearers themselves paid £199 if they wanted to keep the torch and therefore it is theirs to sell to whoever they choose.  But I also question whether the people / person that nominated them for this prestigious occasion will be comfortable to see it being sold.

It just makes me uncomfortable, maybe I’m in the minority…

I would love to know your views on selling the olmpic torch.

just because people have put in huge big bids does not mean they will actually pay up. Would I sell mine if it were me?? maybe at the end of a 5 week month…
