Getting creative with Feather and Black.

Written by Emma. Posted in Uncategorized

There was great excitement in the house when a huge delivery came from Feather and Black as it signalled the first part of the room transformation from mismatched room to teenage chill pad with beautiful bedroom furniture.

Unfortunately for Chloe she has expensive tastes and would have blown the budget in and instant if it were not for her thrifty mum!  Chloe also has an incredibly creative side and would have liked to totally redecorate including wall papering, new carpet and getting a new wooden bed. Her enthusiasm knows no bounds!  However those DIY skills are just a little beyond me.  Luckily for us Chloe has been with me on a couple of photography shoots when Erin was modelling for Fisher Price.  She fell in love with the environment, the prop assistants and set designers. Therefore she saw this challenge as her turn at creating a set to be proud of.

We decided new bedding, curtains plus a few accessories would give the room the lift it needed along with the gorgeous blanket box.  The red and cream colours would complement the blanket box giving the room a timeless feel.  Chloe’s curtains were some old hand me downs and armed with her makeover allowance she choose a vibrant red as the backdrop for the room.  These curtains also needed to black out the room as it is swathed in a golden glow of sunshine early in the morning which doesn’t go with her teenage idea of staying in bed till mid morning when she can.

These photo’s show how hard we have been working and we are loving how the room is taking shape.  Make sure you come back in a few days when we will be showing you our transformation.  Our final photo will be going on the Feather and Black facebook page, where the photo with the most likes wins the bloggers challenge.

Disclosure: I have been given an Olivia blanket box and budget for a room makeover for the challenge from Feather and Black.

Room makeover with Feather and Black.

Written by Emma. Posted in fashion, Uncategorized

Chloe’s bedroom is a bit ‘meh’ it is kind of half done.  When we moved in two years ago, she genrously gave her cabin bed to Dylan who had had a double bed since he was little.  Therefore she had some new furniture and the walls were all repainted.  But most of the bits in her room, curtains, light fitting and mirror were all hand me downs scrabbled together.  As a ten year old at the time she was neither wanting a childs room yet was not ready for the teenage style either.

It generally lacked identity.

However we have really landed on our feet with a fabulous campaign from Feather and Black this month.  If you don’t know Feather and Black (your not alone as I didn’t) they sell luxury bedroom furniture and fittings, including bedding and accessories.  They gave us a choice of furniture plus £150 to give a room a makeover.  Chloe literally squeeled with delight when I told her and promptly took over my laptop whilst she looked for inspiration.

Therefore Chloe and I are tackling this challenge together.  She has decided on a red and white colour scheme as it is a classic look that doesn’t age.  Along with four other bloggers including my lovely friend Molly at Mothers Always Right we will be sharing our before, during and after pictures.  Each of our final pictures are going head to head to win £500 to spend at Feather and Black.  I already have my eye on one of their wooden beds so when I do our big reveal I will be asking for votes on the facebook page!  The picture with the most votes wins.

This is our starting point.  The before makeover look.

See what I mean? it just lacks a bit of ‘wow’. This will be the last time Chloe’s room gets a makeover and ideally needs to see her through the teenage phase. The piece of furniture that will become the focal point of the room is this beautiful Olivia blanket box.

I will be working on the room this week and will blog our ‘work in progress’ pictures and plans.
