The summer holidays are finally here and now the pressure is on to keep everyone entertained and happy. I think parents put themselves under so much pressure at this time of the year to have the perfect family and get everything right. Yet the reality can be different and the school holidays can be expensive with endless requests to do things. To keep everyone’s expectations at bay we are trying something a little a different this summer. I am setting a budget with the children an we are then planning our week each weekend. They are planning the activities and costing the activity which means they are developing their awareness of just how much things cost.
One area they have already cut back on is eating out. Suddenly picnics are in and they are happy to nip to a supermarket or shop when we are out an grab a four pack of premium ice creams rather than visit the (often overpriced) ice cream van. This leaves more money for activities.
Erin has got involved in the planning and suggested the cinema when we can get our two for one tickets. It just proves that no matter their age you can get them involved and teach them how to budget. This approach can also be used on holidays when there is the temptation to do everything on the first day. Crafting and upcycling are great projects for children to take on during the summer.
We love travelling and as such have a few trips planned this summer so budgeting is needed. Erin has been packing for our next trip and trying out all her new clothes. Polarn O Pyret have sent Erin an outfit for our upcoming holiday. Their clothes are so practical and made for playing which is important as that is exactly what intends on doing this summer! Everyone knows stripes are so on trend right now that we opted for a Breton Stripe and some navy shorts.
The clothes from Polarn O Pyret are Scandinavian in style, colourful, practical and made from organic materials which is best for sensitive skin. The clothes fit really well and stand the test of time, I have washed them and they still look like new. Many of the clothes are unisex in design and will be ideal for siblings to wear once the child has outgrown them.
There is a sale on at the moment and with the glorious sunny weather we are finally experincing now might be the time to update your summer wardrobe!
