After my recent parenting fail it became very apparent that Dylan needed a shopping trip to kit him out in clothes that actually fit him rather than wearing shoes two sizes too small. It seems that my boy is changing and the boy is becoming a man. I have always loved shopping for the girls, they enjoy shopping for new clothes and it is easy to kit them out in the latest looks and brands. Dylan on the other hand is more a fan of online shopping, taking him from shop to shop and away from his football and Xbox is a kind of punishment that only 12 year old boys really understand. Yet I do find his age really difficult to buy for and I am sure I am not alone there! He is not yet in small men’s clothes but really wants to be wearing labels and clothes that he considers fashionable. For teen girls I think it is easier as they fit into women’s clothes quicker especially the smaller sizes. Chloe was able to wear women’s size 6 from about 11 years old. The high street seems to cater less for boys of the same age yet there is the same need as wearing clothes is a pretty universally accepted social norm.
Infinities thankfully were able to help with the online shopping as they sell shoes from a size 6. Dylan was given a free rein to choose himself some new trainers and after deliberating for what seemed ages he picked out a pair of Nike Roshe Runs. When I saw deliberating this involved him changing his mind and discussing his choice withh his dad and uncle as they all watched the Villa match together on TV!
He also picked out a Adidas top that fits him as he is very tall for his age. Infinities stocks a plethora of designer brands and is a great way to get all the brands in one hit. The bonus being he didn’t even need to leave the living room.
In addition to kitting out his wardrobe he is growing up in many other ways. We have spent days decluttering his bedroom and getting rid of toys from his childhood. It seems strange packing up the toys that defined his likes just a few years ago. He generously passed the WWE figures to his younger cousin who always wants to play with them when he comes over to our house. In addition to sorting out he wants the wallpaper changed and grandad has added it to his list of jobs. His midsleeper bed was sold and he is waiting for a delivery of a double bed now that he is approaching his teens. I just need to help him find the style that he wants as will now need new bedding and accessories. Dylan has always had the make do stuff – the furniture in his room was originally our and as we upgraded Dyl got the hand me downs. These no longer tick the boxes as he develops his own like s and styles.
This seems a real change in him as he transitions from boy to man. He is already nearly as tall as me and everyone who hasn’t seen him for a while comments on how much he has changed and this change seems to be both physical and mental. It was only a short while ago that his hair and appearance meant very little now the gels are lining up in the bathroom and everything matters more!
Disclosure: I have collaborated with Infinities for this review who gifted me the products mentioned.
