I have been so inactive recently – I tried to blame it on my broken foot but truth be told that has been healed for a while. As I did less running it is so easy to forget to go. One of the hardest things about running is putting those trainers on in the first place. My running gear was in a heap at the back of the wardrobe and I let it stay there. Then after a few months I dreaded pulling the lycra running trousers out. I knew that they would not glide over my hips. I knew instead that I would puff and pant and do some type of wriggling dancing to get them back on.
Then I got a fitbit.
Infact my brothers and I got dad one for Christmas and whilst i was getting it I also got Lee and Chloe one each. Lee runs regularly and Chloe is miss sporty so I knew they would like them. On Christmas day they all set them up and connected with each other. Conversations turned to how many steps they had done, how much sleep they had done and I decided I wanted one too!
We now all wear our fitbits every day, plus my sister in law too. Today in my bid to outdo my family I found those trainers. After dropping Erin at the school gate I ran. I ran and fast walked and it wasn’t as bad as I was expecting. I think the fitbit will have a positive effect on my fitness – I am competitive and I love statistics. I want to get fitter again.
One of my personal goals this year (the year I turn 40) is to get some more positivity into my life. Generally I am an optimistic person and I love challenges. Last year was a tough one and it is easy to allow yourself to dwell and I am not good when I dwell on things. I am going to run for happiness, run to feel alive and to lose weight. II am starting a gratitude book. I was a huge diary writer as a teen and it helped me enormously and I feel that that having a gratitude diary will do the same. I am blessed in my life and sometimes you need to tell yourself that, to reaffirm it and acknowledge it as it is easy to be negative otherwise.
I am also looking at how I relax. Blogging used to be my hobby and I was on the computer in the evening as a way to relax. Now I find that I write during the day but still keep the laptop on until bedtime. I plan to switch off more, to know when to close it up for the night. Instead I plan to relax and read more. I have got this off to a good start by using spa magik organiks bath salts. The Ache Away Eucalptus bath salts cost £12.50 and they are a great way to unwind after sport or just a busy day.
The year is new so what are you planning to implement this year?
