Morphy Richards recently contacted me to see if we wanted to review a couple of irons from their range including the Morphy Richards power steam elite on Emma and 3. I do have a habit of blowing up irons every couple of years so did not hesitate to say yes. Afterall ironing is something that we have to do each week and when you are a family of five that all wear clothes that need ironing the pile never shrinks.
I usually set aside Sunday late mornings to iron. I don’t mind it actually as I do it in my bedroom and catch up on the soaps at the same time. I do it on Sundays as school uniforms need to be ready for Monday mornings! My ironing usually takes me about an hour and a half. When the Power Steam Elite Steam Generator Iron arrived it was much bigger than the more basic irons I have used in the past. However I have always used the steam function and was really keen to see how this compared. I am going to need to find a new home for the iron as it won’t fit where the old one was and I intend to keep using this one now!
It is quite an impressive looking iron and promises to reduce the time it takes to get through ironing. This is due to its ceramic sole plate which makes gliding easier. There are three steam settings and suggests that it will sort out any creases.
Setting up the power steam elite was easy enough. The front part is a removable water tank that you fill up and slot back into place. Simply switch it on and it makes a gentle humm as it warms up to the required setting. The iron is held on top of the unit with a rubber protective plate.
The iron made quick work of the task and the steam settings really helped. Lee’s work shirts were done much quicker and there were no creases, even with the ones that had been washed at the start of the week and staying screwed up in the ironing pile since drying! It made quick work of all of Erin’s pretty dresses.
At approx £149 this is more expensive than I have spent in the past on irons, yet I do think I would invest now I have used it. The result was quickly ironed clothes that were ready to wear. There is also a handy automatic switch off feature after 10 mins. I think this is a good safety measure as I have been known to get distracted and had to leave the ironing at times. It is good to know how safe it is.
