It feels like it has been a long time since I laid on a sun lounger with a cocktail in hand and the sun warming my body. Instead I have been wrapped up in bulky jumpers and visited the GP more frequently than is reasonably acceptable. This winter seems to have taken its toll on us all and I am ready for a break. The past six weeks have seen me have tonsillitis twice, Erin is also on her second bout in as many months and yet again on Sunday evening I was sitting in out of hours with the teen.
I am done with this. School attendance is dwindling, my children never get certificates for 100% attendance – just once it might be nice to be called up for 100% attendance. That is the problem with rewarding children for attendance – it doesn’t take into account children with weaker immune systems. It makes those of us that catch everything going feel guilty. I would rather the children at school than sitting at home. They would rather be at school than feeling ill.
Our weekend again involved lemsips, heated blankets and shining torches in our throats to see and compare just who had the most green blisters. Not pretty but it is the reason I am done with this weather. I don’t like the wet and windy weather. I like feeling the sun on my face and walking off a plane and that heat hits you.
I am the mum that has run baths for poorly children and even let them use my bath bombs and favourite bubble bath. But now I want a break. Whilst I sat brushing Erin’s hair as she felt poorly I was actually looking at the internet – dreaming of last minute holidays choosing destinations that I would like to whisk us all away to for February half term. We can only imagine warming up and coming back revitalised. I would happily dash away and there are some great deals to be had if you feel so inclined. Advantage of booking last minute details (beside the price) is that you don’t have long to wait. Last year we went on holiday, abroad for a week with just four days notice. It was amazing and I would love to do it again – the added last minute preparations and packing suits me and we enjoyed that last minute break.
Sharing is caring!

Yes I am in agreement with you Emma, I too am dreaming of a last minute holiday;) Just checked out the last minute deals on the link, the Sensatori resort looks like the sort of place I could quite enjoy a cocktail or two right now! Off to wipe my boys snotty noses and start dinner… 🙁
u let kids use ur bath bombs :O you have a big heart… and i seriously and badly need holidays ….
I find it really irritating that they reward for good attendance these days – it makes me feel like my kids are wrong for being poorly, or that I am supposed to send them in sick or something. Its not fair to penalise for poorliness in my opinion. A bit of winter sun would be lovely about now though wouldn’t it!
I am always dreaming of last minute holidays, but at the moment we are saving for a bigger house so I have to keep dreaming. I agree with you about the attendance, I always feel so guilty when my son is off nursery
I know exactly what you mean. Touch wood we’ve escaped too many viruses this year, but we’ve had back-to-back germs at times – and it’s so grey, I find it hard to get motivated about anything. Hope you all feel better soon!
I hate lemsip with a passion but it does get the job done. I know the feeling wanting to escape our horrid British weather for sun loungers and cocktails
Am I a bad parent because I make an executive decision to keep my children off school when they are poorly ? Defiantly could do with a holiday in the sun , but with my youngest being 4 it never feels like I get a real break .
We are off on holiday to Northern France for half term although it is not last minute – I booked last summer. It may not be hot and sunny but so looking forward to it
Aw bless you hun I hope you and your kids feel better soon and get the holiday that you all deserve! xxx
I am so with you on this one. Not all of us are blessed with brilliant immunity and despite great efforts, we seem to catch everything 🙁
Oh I need some sun and am dreaming of a summer holiday too! We can never book last minute as there are too many of us! Kaz x
