Redhill in Surrey is to be found just off the southernmost tip of the M25. It strikes a bit of a compromise between urban convenience and rural seclusion, and serves as a hub for several small villages. As a potential destination for a permanent move, it’s historically been overshadowed by neighbouring Reigate. But nowadays, that’s changing. Let’s take a look at why this might be so.
It’s close to London
Perhaps the most obvious advantage of a home in Redhill stems from its proximity to the capital. There are trains running constantly, and the station is around an hour from King’s Cross. If you have a job in the south of London, but you’d rather not live there, then Redhill is therefore very attractive. At the same time, obviously, Londoners will have an easy time getting to you: you can catch a train from East Croydon travelling to Redhill; the journey lasts around twenty minutes, and the trains run regularly.
Moreover, you’ll be able to easily reach anywhere on the capital’s outskirts via the M25 (to say nothing of the rest of the country).
It’s close to the Seaside
One of the biggest advantages Redhill has over the centre of London is the ease with which you’ll be able to travel to the seaside. If you want to catch a train down to Brighton for the day, then it’s just an hour in the other direction.
Transport Improvements
Capacity for trains is likely to see a big improvement in the near future thanks to last year’s £50 million addition of a platform zero to the town’s train station. This will allow a higher volume of traffic to come up through Brighton.
Farm Shop
Residents of the town have no shortage of shopping options, including all of the usual supermarkets. But there’s also a garden centre, café and farm shop rolled into one in the form of Priory Farm Nursery. There’s even a play area for children and a discovery walk, so you’ll be able to keep abreast of the seasonal changes in flowers.
Entertainment
Redhill, as of very recently, has enjoyed a considerable amount of investment. A new £40 million development is on track to be completed soon, complete with a cinema complex and an adjoining shopping centre. On top of this, there’s the famous Harlequin Theatre, which puts on plays, comedy gigs, dance productions, and cinema screenings of its own.
The Pubs
Redhill has a strategy sorted out when it comes to pub closures. Two casualties in the town, the Hatch and the Garibaldi, have been resurrected. As such, you’ll always have a place to unwind and enjoy a pint after a long week.
