Supercharge Your Workouts

If you’re going to take the time to exercise, it makes sense that you should go all out and have the best workout you can possibly have, so that you reap the most benefits for your time. With that in mind, here are a few simple things you can do to supercharge your next exercise session…

Ensure you’re fully hydrated

When you’re dehydrated, you’re likely to be more sluggish than you would normally be, and your joints will likely be less lubricated, which means you may not be able to exercise as effectively. By simply drinking a glass of water before you exercise, you can really improve your performance.

Create an upbeat playlist

Research has shown that music can boost your performance and the level of enjoyment that you get out of exercise. So, before you head off for your next session, be sure to put together a playlist of your favourite upbeat tracks. If you don’t have time for that, Spotify has a lot of ready-made workout playlists that you might enjoy.

Get your nutrition right

Most people do better when they have eaten the right balance of nutrients before a workout (2hrs ahead of time is best). So, as well as taking the best pre workout supplement you can find to meet your needs, be sure to snack on something healthy like a protein shake, peanut butter on wholemeal toast or scrambled eggs and veggies, for example,  to help you power through. It may take a little trial and error to see what works for you, but once you hit upon the right combination, it will help you to work out more effectively.

Get enough sleep

If you don’t get enough sleep, your reaction times will slow, you’ll feel more fatigued and you’ll have more difficulty concentrating during exercise. Not only that, but your body will struggle to rest and repair itself, post-workout, which could lead to more injuries. You really do need to get a good night’s sleep if you are going to be exercising.

Switch it up

If you’re the kind of person who gets bored with exercise pretty fast, you probably find yourself putting less effort in over time. One thing you can do to overcome this issue is to switch things up and try different exercises every once in a while. Even if you only switch from using the exercise bike to working out on the running machine, you’ll feel reinvigorated.

Dress right

Dressing appropriately for the activity you are going to be doing is a great way to ensure you get the most out of your exercise session. Why? Because some clothing really does enhance what you can do naturally. Having a decent pair of trainers, for example, will better support your feet and ankles, so you can go further for longer with less pain, or having a moisture-wicking vest will mean that you don’t get too sweaty and uncomfortable too soon. Invest in the best kit you can afford and you’ll see results while feeling more comfortable – that’s a win-win.

Enjoy your next workout!
