Saving money is very rewarding, and learning how to save money on food shopping can net your family big savings each month. These clever tips will provide a good start in accomplishing that goal.
Shopping strategies are crucial to saving money at the supermarket. In this post I’ll let you in on my approach and explain how that saves me money each and every month at Tesco, especially when combined with the Clubcard Plus Subscription.

Tesco Clubcard Plus Subscription
We have all been a fan of the Tesco Clubcard now for a number of years but there is a new deal on the block that can save you even more money off your food shopping. The Tesco Clubcard Plus Subscription offers 10% off 2 in-store shops per month (up to £200 each)* plus 10% off these popular selected brands F&F, Fred & Flo, Go Cook, Tesco Pet, Carousel (children’s toys) and Fox & Ivy ranges.✝
I subscribed to Clubcard Plus, then I downloaded the Tesco Clubcard app – available for iOS or Android, where you can see the Clubcard Plus benefits before I headed out to the supermarket. When doing my shop I selected a range of products as I knew I would benefit some the additional savings! I even treated Lilly the dog!
At the till I simply produced my iPhone, tapped to activate the discount and it was scanned in by the till operator. The money was deducted from the overall spend and I left with full shopping bags and a smile on my face!
There is a small fee of £7.99 a month for the subscription cost but if you do the maths you will work out that is easily recuperated by even bigger savings. The subscription can be cancelled at anytime.

Meal Plan
One of the easiest ways to save money on the weekly food shop is by meal planning. Create a menu for the week ahead and know what you will have everyday for your main meal. This stops you buying aimlessly. I also print out the meal plan and pop it on our fridge so that the family know what’s for dinner!
Reduction Finder
The only exception to meal planning is when I find some yellow stickers on unsold items that have been reduced! These yellow stickers can offer huge reductions of 75% if you shop at the right time. Now supermarkets often change the timings or move where there might place the heavily reduced goods in order to discourage the same people turning up night after night and hanging around. But if you are in the right place at the right time the savings can be huge. I have often got lucky at my local big Tesco at about 7pm week nights and 3pm on Sunday afternoon.
Weekly Deals
Study the weekly store flyer or monthly magazine and compare the special sales with the coupons on hand. You will often spot a coupon for a new product or new flavour. It is a great way to try new products.

Buy Loose or at Least Check
We often buy pre-packaged fruit and veg as it is more convenient but often this works out more expensive plus it is not good for the environment. Many of us are actively trying to reduce waste therefore buying loose is often cheaper and better for our planet. Do check prices and see if you can save money on food shopping by buying loose.
Bags Bags
Finally don’t forget to take your own bags to beat the charge! I keep a stash in my boot so they are always ready. Whenever I have shopped I make sure they straight back in the boot so I don’t forget them next time!
Supermarket bills will begin to plummet after taking just a few of these steps and putting them to work. Have fun with it and make it a game. Shopping like this will become an enjoyable way of life, download the app now and prepare to save money on your future food bills.
