How To Smash Your Home Organisation With Kids

During quarantine, most of us spent so much time at home that we probably let our home organisation slide. Time felt like it was standing still, and with that feeling came extreme relaxation, Netflix binging, and probably a lax in organisation and scheduling! Even with the task of homeschooling the kids, life still wasn’t at its regular pace. This is nothing to be ashamed of – lockdown brought out the best and worst of us, and there’s nothing we could really do about it.

But now that things are starting to resemble normality again, although the pandemic is still a real threat to our lives, you might be feeling sluggish when it comes to organising your life again. Most of us looked back at our old routines and thought, ‘How did I do that?’, whilst eating cheese puffs on the sofa at 2pm on a Tuesday. The struggle is real. If you are returning to work and finding that just the thought of your old routine is giving you the shivers, here are three key ways to smash your home organisation with your kids.

  1. Make It A Team Effort.

If you’ve got kids who also require extreme scheduling in order to get to school, after school clubs and sports games – we’ve all been there, right mums? – use this time as an opportunity to teach lessons in organisation. Using white boards and markers, draft up a table for each of your kids, where they have to fill in their schedules and the timings. This will help them learn how to organise themselves and it will help take a load off your shoulders when it comes to sorting through your long to-do list.

  1. Make It Fun.

Like anything with kids, things go much more smoothly if they think it’s a game or a fun activity. The same goes for tidying the house. Okay, none of us are exactly Mary Poppins, we can’t snap our fingers and magic the house to tidy itself, but we can all make tidying up into a fun game for the kids to join in and help out. Set each kid a small task and explain carefully how it’s done, then leave them to it. Try putting on funny music to dance to while you tidy, sing along to your favourite Disney tunes, or offer small rewards for good tidying like a small sweet or 50p for the piggy bank. Every little helps!

  1. Enlist Your Tech For Support.

Use your smartphone to your advantage. You paid enough for it, right? Ensure you are utilising every resource to alleviate stress and maximise your time management. Using remote tools for your home organisation such as a physical address service which scans, sorts and sends you all your mail online, is amazingly time effective. These helpful tips can help you get back on track without feeling such a strain on your mind and body. Take advantage of every resource at your disposal, and you’ll be back to normal in no time.

  1. Hi my name is Cal. I am with you in terms of involving my family in ensuring that everything is organized. That is something we revisit at least 2 times a week. We make sure that whatever clutter or things that was moved previous day that it goes back to it original position when we clean our house.
