The Best Places to Eat in Salt Lake City
As the capital and the largest city in Utah, Salt Lake City is a fantastic place to visit. Whether you are there on business or on vacation with the family, you will want to know the best places to eat. It is hard to know where to go in a new city unless you know someone!
Even though it is an American city, you can expect a unique taste here. Although Mexican is the most popular, there are other special Utah foods like Utah scones, pastrami burgers, and funeral potatoes. - The Red Iguana
Even the locals will agree, Red Iguana is the best place for Mexican food. Their specialties include chile Verde, fajitas four ways, and tacos or burritos over a dozen ways. For a unique dining experience, Five Alls is an old English style restaurant with exquisite food and an amazing atmosphere. The fresh salmon with paprika is delightful and the king crab is so big it hangs over the plate. On both sides! Or try the halibut, lobster, or shrimp. They all come with potatoes or rice, veggies, and bread.
- Market Street Grill
Grab a bite at the oyster bar or have a seat for a nice meal at one of three locations. They have fish & chips with halibut or cod, king crab, lobster tails, or surf & turf. Or try their shrimp by the pound. They also have calamari, clams, and mussels as well as pasta. Their finfish include tuna, trout, and salmon.
- Current Fish & Oyster
The chef makes Current Fish & Oyster outstanding, and the price is awesome too. The grilled swordfish with beans and greens is a favorite. Also, the fish stew with mussels, oysters, prawns, and scallops is amazing. And there are seven choices for dessert including cheesecake, gelato sundae, and affogato to name a few.
Burgers and Sandwiches
- Feldman’s Deli
Feldman’s Deli is the most well-known deli in the city and their menu is extensive. Try the sloppy joe, Rueben, or the corned beef with coleslaw and fries. Or get a Jewish salami, egg salad, ham, or turkey sandwich with chips. They also have salads, potato salad, and New York cheesecake for dessert.
- Millie’s Burgers
Millie’s has been serving up burgers and fries for over 40 years, so they know what they are doing. All the ingredients are fresh, and you can add all sorts of toppings like zucchini, onion rings, or macaroni & cheese. Even their sauce is made daily. Or try the fish and chips, chicken, and thick milkshakes.
- Proper Burger Company
If you want a handmade burger and fries with a big glass of beer, you have to try Proper Burger. Get your burger 12 ways or design your own by picking from their list of toppings. The Johnny Utah is a local fave with pastrami, cheese, Russian dressing, and coleslaw. And they have ice cream for dessert.

Whether you want the five-course tasting menu with tenderloin, ribs, or scallops or a large plate of burgers and truffle fries, it is all straight from the farm at Pago. They only buy from certain local farms, so you know it is always fresh. And the desserts like chocolate cremeux or brioche bread pudding speak for themselves.

This cabin in the woods does not look like much, but it is decked out and serves some of the most delicious foods in Utah. Eat in the elegant dining room or out on the lawn. Either way, you will be happy with your exquisite meal. Grilled bison, king salmon, and grilled elk are just a few of the dinner choices.
- Stanza
If you want a fine dining experience, check out Stanza. Wagyu beef with parmesan potatoes is famous. But the Kurobuta pork chop, duck breast, and charred king salmon are all amazing as well. They even have a whole separate menu for dessert with cheesecake, cannoli, and so much more.

For any kind of cake there is, Sweet Cake is the place. With over 40 flavors of cupcakes like bumblebee honey vanilla and churro with cinnamon frosting, 38 types of cookies like pumpkin and iced orange, 34 brownies and bars, and 14 rolls and muffins, you can eat here every day and never get bored.
- Bruges Belgian Bistro
How about a waffle? Get a real Belgian waffle without going to Belgium. The waffle monster is stuffed with speculoos spread, ice cream, and strawberries, and the s’more is full of biscoff and marshmallows topped with chocolate. Pig on a cloud is full of bacon, crème fraîche, and caramel. And there’s much more.

Leatherby’s has been making ice cream their whole lives. They have 28 flavors including play dough, horchata, cake batter, and bubble gum.
