Moving from a regular class to a virtual class is a significant adjustment for children. Some of them might not even like studying anymore. Since they must continue doing so, you have to keep them motivated. Here are some useful tips to consider.
Always be there
You might be busy working from home, but you have to show that you’re there. Your children need to feel your guidance and presence. At school, students have their teachers to help them with their difficulties. At home, you’re the only one they can rely on. Therefore, even if you’re too busy, you have to make time for your children.
Consult with the teachers
If you didn’t spend enough time with them before the pandemic started, you might not know how to assist in the learning process. The best person who can help you is the teacher. Try to consult with the class advisers and subject teachers. They will tell you about your children’s attitude in the class. You can also tweak the courses offered based on what is suitable for their needs. Keep close contact with them since they know how to deal with students of different learning needs and abilities.
Create a reward system
You might want to offer a reward if your children do something good at school. You can use it to negotiate with them to finish tasks. They will feel excited to do better if they know that they’re getting something at the end of the day. You can consider buying a Playmobil Princess. It’s a fun toy that children will feel excited to use. You have even more reasons to give it if they accomplish something big on their own.
Give them time to take a break
Asking your children to study for several hours a day can be exhausting. Not everyone is capable of doing it. You also get tired of sitting down and learning something for over an hour. Imagine how your children feel about this setup. Therefore, it’s understandable if you decide to give them a break. If they love playing video games or other toys, you can allow them for an hour after accomplishing a task. Be open to negotiations to encourage them to do better. They might also want to reconnect with friends at school. If they wish to do a video call, you should allow them to do it.
Teach them some practical stuff
There’s no need to follow the academic requirements given by the school all the time. The good thing about studying from home is that you can teach your children practical ideas. They can also learn some chores to become more independent. You won’t always be there for them. If they become more mature, they have to learn to do things without help. It’s a good idea to start as early as now.
No one likes this setup, but we have to make the most of it. Try your best to guide your children until everything gets back to normal.
