7 Tips for Kids with Sensitive Skin

Your little one’s skin is different from that of an adult. It’s not only delicate and soft but also very sensitive. As a result, it can react even to the slightest change in its environment.

If your kids suffer from dryness, irritation, or rashes, it will make them restless apart from creating other skin-related disorders.

Like every problem has a solution, the following tips will help you contain the issues arising out of your child’s sensitive skin.

Wash their hair with care

It is always advisable to use a shampoo that’s gentle on the scalp and doesn’t contain any harmful or strong chemicals that damage the delicate skin on the scalp and make it dry and rough.

Be gentle on clothes

There are several things you can do to make washing your child’s cloth with water and detergent less irritating. Start by choosing a detergent free of colors and fragrances which might affect the skin.

Also, avoid liquid fabric softeners, antistatic products, and powdered softeners, as these products often have scents or perfumes added.

If you have the option to purchase organic or hypoallergenic diapers, they are another excellent choice for your child’s sensitive skin. Cedarwood or lavender baby detergents also offer soothing properties which can help reduce diaper rash.

Skincare

Use only mild, fragrance-free products to lessen the risk of further itchiness and allergies. Mild soap is best for bathing kids with sensitive skin. Lather the soap thoroughly and rinse it off. Avoid using a washcloth that has been frayed or worn out, as this can irritate the skin.

Food allergies

Food that causes allergy to your kid’s skin comes from the protein content of particular food. This protein content is absorbed into the bloodstream and causes their skin to trigger allergic reactions.

More and more parents are asking about the various foods that can cause allergies. One of the most common problems these days is skin allergy.

Almost half of all children are affected by such allergies in one way or another in their early childhood. In comparison, there are indeed quite several food items to avoid.

Moisturize

Don’t forget to moisturize your child’s skin with natural oils and ingredients to keep it away from dryness and rashes. They should not contain parabens, chemicals, or synthetic fragrances that can upset your child’s skin.

Also, not all skin types need moisturizing, like oily and greasy.

Too much sun is no fun

Excessive sun and heat exposure can cause redness and burns in your child’s skin, especially if they have sensitive skin.

When going out, never apply sunscreen to children under six months and always keep them in the shade and use a hat that protects their head, ears, and neck area.

Heat Rash

Parents sometimes inadvertently tuck their children into layers of garments that obstruct sweat glands and cause red patches on their bodies.

Always make children wear skin-friendly, breathable clothing to keep their body temperature cool.
