Easy Birthday Breakfast Grazing Boards for Teenagers

Breakfast is many people’s favourite meal of the day and with breakfast grazing boards it is no wonder why!

Trying to come up with new and fun ideas to celebrate a birthday is important to me. I like to make birthdays a really special occasion and therefore I wanted to make a birthday breakfast grazing board for my son’s 18th birthday. I have previously bought a breakfast grazing table to be delivered but it works out quite pricy and I realised that I could make a breakfast board much cheaper if I did it myself.

My breakfast grazing board cost under £15 to make and took about 30 minutes to make – which included dipping the strawberries in chocolate! If you order a breakfast platter to be delivered they typically cost £40 plus to feed five people. Therefore making your own is a much cheaper option plus you know exactly the types of foods included!

A breakfast grazing board is a perfect way to celebrate special occasions like an 18th birthday. Teenagers will love the variety of foods and is a great way to start the day on your big birthday. You can make a grazing table for any number of people ours was to feed the five of us. I shopped locally at Aldi to get the breakfast favorites that I wanted to use. I spent about £12 on the brunch platter which worked out at under £ per head which was ideal for this birthday treat.

If you need a grazing board this bamboo chopping board is ideal and available for next day delivery from Amazon.

What is a grazing platter?

Put simply a grazing platter is a fun way to prepare a table with a selection of pastries, fresh fruits, meats, cheeses or any other types of food. It is spread out in a beautiful way and people then help themselves. It is the modern form of a buffet – it just looks a lot prettier and is served on a wooden cutting board. This flat lay is also fab for taking a photo and showing people how you have started your day!

A grazing platter is ideal for a small gathering and there are many variations you can create. You could use charcuterie items and create a breakfast charcuterie board, or fresh breads and cheese platter, children might like a sweet platter. Grazing boards are literally a great option for any easy to eat dishes and finger foods.

A grazing board can make a lovely mother’s day brunch and it also sits well at a board meeting or corporate events.

When to serve a breakfast grazing platter

We had our breakfast platter at about 9am but it equally makes an ideal breakfast before school or could be eaten later as a brunch board. There is no right or wrong time to eat the platter.

How to make breakfast grazing boards

Making the breakfast grazing board couldn’t be easier! We popped to Aldi the afternoon before and bought:

buttermilk pancakes,

chocolate croissants,

a tear and share large brioche,

waffles,

strawberries

chocolate for melting

yoghurt and granola

A bottle of bucks fizz

Chocolate coated strawberries

We prepared the strawberries that evening. First, we made sure to wash the fruit then we let it dry naturally. We melted some milk chocolate in the microwave. Next, we dipped the strawberries into the melted chocolate to give them a good coating. We then placed the chocolate-dipped strawberry onto a piece of parchment paper and left them to set. Once completely dry (after about 40 minutes) we transferred the strawberries to a container and we left them in the fridge overnight.

The following day we prepared the rest of the breakfast platter. All I did was take a large wooden board and I cut the breakfast items up into bite-sized pieces. I cut the pancakes in half and the waffles into quarters.

Then spread the mini waffles, pancakes and croissants out across the board. I then placed the chocolate-dipped strawberries on the board too. The fresh fruit adds colour which looks great. You can add any berries that you like. I also made up 5 small pots of yoghurt with granola which I added to the serving board.

The breakfast platter was then taken to the table which is laid before people are invited to sit down. I served our breakfast with a glass of Buck Fizz for an extra special touch as it was an 18th birthday breakfast treat but orange juice or apple juice would be a great alternative. The grazing table is best eaten at room temperature but don’t leave it out too long before you start eating otherwise the pastries go stale.

Other options

There are a number of ways you can add to this, some people add edible flowers to their boards for another pop of colour. You can add lots of fresh berries of your choosing and this is a great way of getting some fruit into kids or teenagers who don’t usually eat that healthily in the morning! If you have more time you could also make your own pancakes and waffles which would then make this an even cheaper breakfast platter.

We hope this has given you lots of inspiration on how you can create a low-cost breakfast gazing board that will leave your teenager smiling and feeling really special.
