Bored? Here are the Top Things to Cure Boredom

There’s nothing worse than feeling bored and not knowing what the heck to do with your spare time. If you’re lucky enough to have any spare time, feeling bored can actually make you feel inspired to do something else. We are nearly finishing up 2024 already and you should have more than enough on your plate to not have to feel bored.

However, you need to be able to have some fun things lined up to keep you entertained if you’re stuck inside because of the rain or you are out of plans this weekend and you don’t know what to do with yourself. Cabin fever is never any fun, and while you can sit and play round after round of minesweeper with your favorite drink, it doesn’t mean you want to spend all that time there. So, instead of sitting bored, here are some things that you can do to cure your boredom if you can’t go anywhere.

  1. Head to an online escape room so you can’t leave the house. Maybe you’re ill, or maybe you’re just stuck looking after the kids, or you have something to wait in for. We can all do with a little bit of escapism right now, so if you want to be able to get out but you can’t go anywhere, then the Internet is your new way to escape. There are plenty of online escape rooms that you can enjoy and there are so many that you can do either with friends, as an online game or by yourself. They can get your heart racing and your adrenaline pumping and that’s what you’re aiming for.
  2. Lay down with a true crime podcast. One of the best things about true crime podcasts is that they give you that thrill that you need without having to leave the house. Sometimes they are gruesome and they’re always keeping you on the edge of your seat. Whether it’s a cold case or a miscarriage of justice, you’re going to be able to listen through twist after twist. In fact, you could literally lay down with your favorite snacks and listen as some of the scariest murderers or criminals in the world have had their crime unraveled.
  3. Work your way through Netflix. You do not have to be bored if you have a plethora of movies and TV shows on Netflix in front of you. There are some movies out there that absolutely suck, but giving yourself a challenge to be able to watch every single movie on Netflix is a good way to start. You can work your way through different genres and even different TV shows. The fun part about this is that you could binge TV shows and movies and then find out that after you’ve binged an entire season of a TV show, they’ve canceled it because that’s what Netflix likes to do. You can come up with your own rating system, grab the popcorn and a drink and have fun.
  4. Learn to make cocktails from home. There’s something super therapeutic about taking the time to make a quality cocktail. If you, like many others, enjoy having a drink to unwind at the end of a very long day, learning how to do cocktails in the same way that Tom Cruise once did in that movie from the 80s is a great idea. If you’ve got a cocktail shaker, a handful of ice, and a couple of bottles from your drink cabinet, you can head to YouTube or just head to Google itself and learn how to make cocktails that taste delicious.
  5. Dive into science fiction. Science fiction isn’t all about space battles and spaceships, although there is a lot of that. When it’s good, it’s an escape from the real world. But what makes sci-fi super special is that at its core, you can really enjoy everything you learn about it. Whether you’re a Star Trek or Star Wars fan, science fiction is full of fables that tell us about humanity right now and where it’s going. You can expand your horizons without actually leaving home too, because you can order books into you, or you can take yourself a literary world map, which is a bookshelf made-up of the most popular books set in every country in the world. It’s a good place to begin, and it gives you that extra bump of culture that you’ve been looking for.
