Thomas & Friends ‘King of the Railway’

Erin is a real TV addict, this is due to how physically tired gets and because DVDs and Cbeebies were our best friends when she was in spica and on her many visits to children’s ward.  Therefore she turns to dvds and the TV for her downtime.  She has been ‘caught’ on several occassions watching a dvd on the tv and watching a second programme on the iPad at the same time! Cheeky monkey!

I do limit her TV time but when she is feeling exhausted I see nothing wrong with her snuggled on the sofa with a blanket and dvd for company.  Erin is very into swashbuckle and pirates at the moment and her birthday party next month will reflect this!  She makes me giggle as she is a very determined little lady and already sets her own likes and dislikes.  At a recent party whilst all the girls were having their faces painted with butterfly’s and all things sparkly, Erin announced she would like to be a monster to scare and chase all the girls!

Likewise she will watch most things on the TV without making gender assumptions.  She is just starting to watch longer dvds and enjoy the Disney films.  Erin was sent the Thomas and Friends feature length DVD ‘King of the Railway’ to watch recently and really enjoyed it.  The story features a surprise guest in Sodor with a big surprise and important jobs for Thomas, Percy and James.  They need to be brave when their new friend goes missing.

Erin really enjoyed the film and was soon playing with the trains I had kept from when Dyl was little.  I really hope she continues to like what we may class as the stereotypical gender toys.  I wish that there was less gender bias in toys as the pressures and identity this puts on preschoolers really isn’t needed in a society that strives for equality between the genders.
