BBC Points West and Raising Awareness of Hip Dysplasia DDH

It has been a funny week that has presented some amazing opportunities.  Erin was nominated for a Water Babies Little Hero Award. Last week I found out she had won. It’s a week of awards as this Friday it is the MAD blog awards of which I am a finalist in the outstanding category. Yet I don’t expect to be as successful as Erin! The icing on the cake was that we were interviewed by BBC Points West Raising Awareness Hip Dysplasia DDH.

Water Babies put out a press release which told a brief version of  Erin’s story of hip dysplasia. Brilliantly it seems to have caught the media’s eye.  What I am thrilled about is that this time I got to tell our personal story. You see we have done TV before but it was about swaddling. I still want to hit the big time with This Morning (if you’re reading Phil and Holly). However today was brilliant for raising awareness.

The BBC Points West team came to our gym and filmed Erin swimming. They took some amazing footage and I wish I had more of it, I got to see another perspective of Erin’s swimming.  Using a gopro they filmed her underwater. Everyone could see how much she adores the water, she has her eyes wide open and a smile plastered across her face as she swims.  To say it was emotional is an understatement!

I am thrilled with the coverage and that hip dysplasia again has got some air time.  I am so committed to raising awareness of ddh.  Whether that’s through running a half marathon and raising £1000 or speaking about our experiences.

Erin might well be in a good place. But until GP’s, health visitors and the well baby checks are actually detecting more cases and we are avoiding late diagnosis I will not stop.

If you missed the news or can’t see it in your area I had a rather novice attempt at filming it!

Erin on the prime time news!

Sharing is caring!
