Women in 40’s are often having the best time of their lives. They are confident in their own skin and have plenty of life experience. As a woman in my 40’s I have a much clearer direction of what I want from life. I am reliant on me and financially secure and have a greater belief in myself than I did in my 20’s or 30’s.

“Forty is the new thirty” is like an updated version of the saying, “Life begins at forty.” Whichever you choose to believe, scores of celebrities, writers, and scientists have proven that great things can happen during that magical decade and onward, women in 40’s are welcoming the decade.
Of course, health is a must to achieve success in any form at any age. On a more serious note, your body changes or starts to change at 40. Gray hairs and wrinkles become prominent for women in 40’s. You can also brace the onset of hot flashes, moments of forgetfulness, low metabolism, and higher risk for illnesses.
Aging clearly demands an honest check from you. If you are a woman in your forties or a year shy from turning forty and living your best life, then these practical ideas for healthy living are for you.
1. Cut Back on Caffeine
You have reached the age when it’s right to reduce coffee intake for better sleep and lower anxiety levels. Caffeinated drinks release energy in bursts that stimulate the body in ways that you become anxious or experience heart palpitations.
2. Bank on Sleep
With eight hours of sleep, you help your body recuperate and recover. You can induce deep sleep by consuming less coffee as when the day is about to end, reducing smartphone use, and setting fixed sleeping and waking-up times.
3. Eat More Protein
According to this manual, the body needs protein for tissue growth and replacement. An adult ideally must consume 60 grams of protein, which can be derived from fish, meat, soy, and dairy products. Protein also delivers energy, but not as fast as carbohydrates and fats do.
4. Stock Up on Calcium
Calcium is critical for bone health. Together with vitamin D, these nutrients ensure that your bones and teeth are strong and healthy. You can turn to milk, as well as yogurt, cheese, and soy milk, for your calcium needs.
5. Bid Goodbye to Empty Calories
These foods that are loaded with sugar and fats offer nothing valuable to the body. It’s tempting, but you have to learn to say no to cakes, sodas, and even your favorite pancake syrup. Fast food is also an example; try ordering the healthiest on the menu, or visit less often to kick the habit.
6. Build the Breakfast Habit
You are never too old to take the most important meal of the day. The habit of eating breakfast reduces the risk of developing heart disease and type 2 diabetes. What’s on the table still matters, and this morning meal must offer a balanced mix of protein, fiber, fruits, and vegetables.
7. Shield Your Cells with Antioxidants
Your cells take a beating from pollutants and free radicals every day. When these cells get damaged, they become susceptible to skin cancer and other diseases. As a defense, include food rich in antioxidants in your diet. Take carrots for carotenoids, whole-grain products for vitamin E, and tomatoes for vitamin C.
8. Eat for Your Heart
Luckily, the diet that your heart loves is within your reach and in this article. Fruits, vegetables, lean meat sources, and high-fiber foods are good for your heart. However, be careful with the salt because of its link to high blood pressure, and saturated fat because it can raise your cholesterol level.
9. Supplement, as Needed
Before you buy the most talked-about product that promises to cure all mortal troubles, consult your doctor. Undergo medical examination to check for blood sugar and cholesterol levels, as well as monitoring your oxygen saturation using a specialized sensor. The latter is essential for those with respiratory or cardiovascular conditions. As Medical News Today notes, cells need oxygen to survive.
Going back, get the appropriate supplements when the results are out.
10. Speak with an Expert
You’ve read enough do’s and don’ts when it comes to food. But what does your body need for nourishment? A dietitian or nutritionist is the best person to ask about your dietary needs, restrictions, etc.
11. Get a Move On
Whether you walk, run, hike, bike, or hit the gym, never stop moving. Any physical movement offers numerous benefits to the body, such as building bone mass, enhancing mood, and increasing blood flow. You, however, need to steer clear of workouts that lead to overexertion or boost in appetite.
Prevention Is Always Better Than Cure
You know your priorities better than anyone else, and it’s better to prepare for future challenges and risks. Take advantage of months or years to strengthen your body against diseases and things that can damage it.
Toxins that harm your physical health are indeed all around. You can get them in the environment, the food you eat, or the substances you take. While substance use doesn’t define you, it can leave an indelible mark on your career.
That’s the purpose of detoxification programs, which purge harmful foreign elements out of your body in the face of a preemployment test in a few days. To aid this kind of detox, you need to eat food rich in fiber and protein, and take into account your weight, height, and toxin exposure to get the best results.
Now that you are a woman in 40’s more than ever, you need to invest in a healthy lifestyle. Through better choices and activities, you can have more fruitful years ahead to raise beautiful kids and grandchildren or invent the next big social-networking site.
It’s clearly up to you how to spend your forties with the sky the limit.
Sharing is caring!

I just shifted my habits of drinking coffee to water with mixed lemon and other detoxifying fruits, and I felt some changes for a month of drinking it, I recommend this method to others as well.
Hi Emma,
Very informative article, completely loved it! I have a question though, there are some studies that says that there should be a long gap between two meals, so many of them recommend a brunch in the morning, followed by dinner in the evening rather than going for 3 meals or even more in a day, what is your opinion on this?
