This years travels and reasons to visit Iceland

Over the year we have been lucky enough to be invited on some great travel press trips.  One of the advantages of now being freelance is that I am able to often arrange things in order to go on the great trips that fall into my inbox.  Highlights of the year have included our trip to Corsica with Mark Warner which the children loved.  We stepped out of our comfort zone on a walking holiday and we really enjoyed the communal aspects of this type of break and I also managed a few days foraging which involved a fab hot tub and we were very excited to be on the Norwegian Escapes maiden voyage.  These trips are all wonderful and I hope that there will be more travelling in 2016.

These trips have got me thinking about where we would love to visit next year.  We have a trip or two in the early planning stages but there are still plenty of school holidays available to fill with other travels!  Next year I also have a big birthday – it will be the big 40!  This doesn’t fill me with dread but i do want to do something pretty epic to celebrate the date.

One place would be visiting Iceland.  It wasn’t a place that really intrigued me until I saw a couple of bloggers heading off to Iceland for breaks.  After reading their posts I was captivated and Annie’s photography certainly shows how beautiful Reykjavik is.  Therefore I would like to go on a road trip to Iceland and visit the following places.

• Top of my list would be the Blue Lagoon Spa with its beautiful waters and spa facilities.  I am sure I could unwind here and knock a few years off my age!
• Dancing in Reykjavik looks lots of fun and considering the daylight hours are often reduced it just means that there is longer to party at night.
• Iceland is the land of ice – and the country is literally covered in ice and snow. The overwhelmingly beautiful ice caves attract adventurers. I wonder how many people hum the tune to Disney’s Frozen once they are inside!
• No trip would be complete without witnessing the Northern lights and taking in the breathtaking sight. The northern phenomena is also among the most popular attractions. The dazzling lights are especially bright since the increase of solar activity. The lights are best admired in the remote places, further from the urban lights.  They are best seen from the middle of September to middle of April.
• The geysers are another of natures gifts that can be seen in Iceland, Strokkur in the southwest of Iceland beside the Hvítá River is a popular fountain geyser. Many geysers are found in Haukadalur in the south of the country.

Iceland certainly appeals the more I have read about it and I the destination is well serviced by budget airlines which makes geiing there affordable and easy.  A flight from Bristol takes just under three hours and you can get a flight for about £30 each way if you book in advance.
