5 Party Games For All Ages

We can probably remember the traditional children’s party games that we grew up playing and these are certainly still popular today. Bring the gift of retro sweet hampers and it is like a remix of the 1980’s all over again!

One of my top tips is to choose children’s party games that require minimal set-up. You want to be able to play games quickly and then move onto the next party game.

Party games can also be played at a family picnic or day out, they are just a great way for kids to run off some energy and have fun whilst doing so.

Throwing your own garden party is a much cheaper option than hiring a party venue and just as much fun. You can invite exactly who you want with no min or max numbers. All it takes is a little preparation and your birthday party will be talked about for ages afterwards for all the right reasons! We have ditched party bags and now give the kids a small sweet hamper as a take-home gift. This reduces the plastic tat and believe us, other parents will thank you for it!

Here are our favourite children’s party games

• Musical chairs is a classic party game and one for all ages. Pop a row of chairs in a line and the guests walk around the row of chairs until the music stops. As the music stops everyone has to sit on a chair, anyone left chairless is out.  Remove a chair and start the music again. Continue playing until there is only one chair left and one person sitting on it. Declare them the winner!
• Musical statues is another firm favourite and gets everyone up and dancing. When the music stops everyone must stand still, anyone caught moving is out. Start the music up again and continue until one person is left.
•  Sleeping lions is a firm favourite with parents who need to calm down excitable children. Everyone must lie in space and ignore everything around them. They are out if they are spotted moving.

• A treasure hunt. This is ideal for outside parties, pop the guests into teams and provide each with a list of items they must find. The first group back wins the challenge. We like to include an eclectic mix of items on our list like a dark coloured sock, a pine cone, a pencil.
• Another firm favourite is a pinata take turns trying to break the pinata to win the sweets inside.
• Balloon races, line the kids up in two teams and the kids must then place the balloon under their chin and pass it to each other using only their necks.
• Egg and Spoon race, many of us will remember this from our primary school sports days! Get a large spoon and a pack of eggs (make sure the eggs rest comfortably on the spoons). Then get the children to race while holding the egg on the spoon. The first child to make it over the finish line without dropping their egg is the winner.
• British Bulldog – this children’s party game got banned in our school playground but it was one of everyones favourite games! Choose one kid to be the bulldog. Find a large open space and get the kids to stand at one end. They the must take it in turns to cross the space to the other side without being tagged (touched) by the bulldog. If they are tagged, they join the bulldog in trying to tag the remaining kids. The winner is the last kid to be tagged.
