6 Tips to Stay Healthy When Working on a Laptop Every Day

Sitting on a laptop all day for work can be bad for your health.  If you are not sitting correctly you can quickly start suffering with backache or repetitive strain injury. Therefore there are certain things I have built into my day to keep me fighting fit. When I was teaching I rarely sat still, I was up and about in the classroom.  Now that I work at home as a full time blogger, I am often on the laptop for 6 hours a day. Therefore we put together 6 Tips to Stay Healthy When Working on a Laptop Every Day

Try these:

  1. I wear a Fitbit and every hour I do a little walk which gets me my 250 steps per hour. This quickly adds up to my 10,000 steps. I also walk my dog.
  2. Eat lunch outside, it gives me a chance to switch off for a bit and grab some fresh air which invigorates me. The fresh air clears my head and helps me regroup.
  3. Use ergonomical equipment from furniture@work to sit correctly this helps you align yourself.  It will stop your injuring yourself.
  4. Build time into the day for exercise either a fitness class or a run.  I enjoy running straight from the school drop off.  It wakes me up for the day and helps me plan my day out mentally. Get out of bed and put those trainers on. For many of us finding the motivation and the time is the hardest bit. Doing it upon waking means that I don’t talk myself out of it!
  5. Eat well, I make a huge fruit salad which I can dip in and out of. Use seasonal fruits so that it is cheaper and fresh.
  6.  Stretch regularly, there are some great examples in the below infographic.

When not working it is important to look after yourself.  I have a monthly deep tissue sports massage which helps with neck pain.  This is investing in my personal health and something I value each month.  When I pick Erin up from school we always walk.  This is also the optimum time to talk through Erin’s day.  She offloads on this short walk home before she starts playing and ‘forgets’ what she has done!
