Bumps in the night

I have switched on the laptop after a week of enjoying the family festivities.  We still have more family fun to come as Chloe, my millennium baby is 15 on Friday.  How is she fifteen?  How was the millennium that long ago?

Christmas eve in our house was full of changing beds and playing cloak and dagger with Erin.  After going to bed at her usual time she awoke at 10.15 pm.  I could hear her hyperventilating and my first thought was that she was having an asthma attack.  As I went to her I could feel the heat radiating from her body.  She was wet to touch and shaking.  I scooped her up wondering if this was going to result in an emergency out of hours dash for a nebulizer like it has so many times previously.

However, this was not caused by the tonsillitis and virus her little body was fighting, but rather by the thought of the man in red visiting our home.  It had sent her into a tailspin and nothing would placate her.  As I managed to get the rest of the goodies from my room to downstairs before I moved her into my room.  She perked up a little climbed into her daddy’s side and announced to Lee and I that daddy needed to find somewhere else to sleep as she wasn’t moving!

Whilst I pottered about downstairs I hoped that Erin would drop off again and we would be able to transfer her back into her room.  No such luck.  She sat and waited for me!  When I went back to her at about 11.30pm I shut my bedroom door behind me and Erin said ‘phew’ she felt safer now the door was shut and she was with me.  Erin and I then slept soundly until the older two woke us with shouts of it is Christmas at 8.30!  Poor Lee had been relegated to the downstairs sofa bed!

However there was a silver lining in this story!  I have been drip feeding the idea that we needed a new sofa to Lee for the past few months. One of the reasons he was reluctant was because of the need for a sofa bed. After one nights sleep on it he has realised that it is no longer comfy and that yes we do need a new sofa.  Therefore I get my lounge done in the new year after all so it was a bit of a win!

Do your little ones like the idea of Santa – or is it just mine who freaked out over it?

Sharing is caring!

  1. Oh bless her little heart!! My eldest woke up at 11,30pm and in a sleepy haze, said “I’m done sleeping, shall I check if he has been yet” …… this was just after we had finished dealing with all the presents! I was horrified and thank the lord that we still have a stair gate to fend them off! 🙂

Glad it ended well ….. including the sofa persuasion xx
