Father’s Day is a time to show thanks for all the things our dads do for us. From standing on the sidelines of football matches, to being dads taxi. As we get older our dads still help us. My dad babysits and even decorates my house for me. My own dad has been really poorly since Jan and had several operations after collapsing with kidney stones. He is due more surgery this week and hopefully then we can celebrate Father’s Day knowing that the worst is behind him. He can then concentrate on getting back to full health, especially as my dining room needs redecorating!
I’d like to thank my dad for all he does for us. It is suggested that dads spend 4 hours a week as a taxi. I am 41 but recognise this is true. When my car broke down a few years ago it was my dad I called. When Chloe’s broke down recently it was again my dad I called!
When the children were little a handmade card and decorated biscuits were enough for Father’s Day. They would bound into the bedroom to show their wares with a smile on their face. Proud of their school made cards. Yet as they have got older they have got more reluctant to put pen to paper. Instead they want to give gifts that they can buy. They want to go online and order a gift that they have chosen.
As children grow so do the expectation they put on presents. Their own birthday lists have got greater but so too are the gifts they choose to give. Therefore when we started gathering ideas for Father’s Day ( 18th June – if you are suddenly panicking) they knew they wanted to get their dad something he really likes. We also have a holiday coming up and the children know that Lee spends little on himself for clothes. It is a family joke that he wears the same tops frequently. Therefore they decided to up the game this year and get him some new clothes.
Lee likes Fred Perry, Lacoste and Hugo Boss and he likes tops without big logos or slogans. The children turned to Mainline Menswear who stock all the designer brands and who even have free delivery on all full price items. We had a little look. at what is available and they picked out the following.
We looked at a range of budgets and found the Ted Baker Wallet for under £40. Hugo Boss Socks for just £15 up to silk ties at £65 and tops at £55. The price range suits all and it was easy to find things that a modern dad will like.
The children settled on combining their allowance and bought him a couple of Fred Perry tops. These will be well appreciated and will update his wardrobe for the summer.
