School stress is a real thing with children these days. It seems the schools require more and more focus for children to get standardised testing done as well as to achieve their maximum educational experience. While school is necessary, as we all need to have a solid education, sometimes this pressure is too much for children. If you have a child who struggles with school stress and you want to help them cope, then you’ve come to the right place. Today I’m featuring my top tips to help your child cope with school stress so that you can all rest easier as your child gains the best education possible.
How to Help Your Child Cope with School Stress
Identify the Cause
Every child is different so what you might think is causing them school stress may not be. Sit down and have a chat with your child so you can figure out what’s causing them to stress out. In younger children who may not know what stress is, just listen to what their complaints are about their day. Perhaps they have difficulty focusing or the classroom is too noisy or they simply feel like they can’t do the work that their teacher assigns them. Hear your child out and listen in between the words that they say so you can identify the cause of school stress.
Stop Over-Scheduling
So many parents have their children in extra-curricular activities or sports that simply add to their level of school stress. While some children thrive with a busy schedule, perhaps your child isn’t able to cope with everything on their plate right now. If your child is suffering from school stress, you’ll need to figure out a way to stop over-scheduling them. It’s important to be able to pause, as a parent, and respect that your child may not be able to handle everything you’ve put into their schedule. Create a minimally demanding schedule as your child works to cope and gain control of school stress.
Make Time for Fun
Let’s face it; children today have to do way more work in the classroom than we did when we were growing up. While this may feel like our children are having too much demanded of them, it’s the reality for many schools. Now that you’ve accepted that your child may have school stress and the demands are too much for them, be sure to schedule in time for fun. One of the best ways to help your child cope with school stress is to encourage fun with their peers and family. Scheduling quality time to hang out with friends and family will truly help their school stress levels get lower.
The causes of school stress differ from child to child, but the reality is real. Many children suffer from stress brought on by the demands of their school. If you know a child that’s suffering from school stress then please use these tips to help guide them forward, away from the negative impact that stress can have on a child.
