Families have many different Christmas traditions, from what they do in the weeks leading up to Christmas, to what they eat on the day and where they spend their family time.
Many families choose to go away over the festive season with some heading to the sun and others heading to a wintery wonderland. One way to make Christmas extra special is to head into the depths of winter and experience many of the fun activities that we imagine Santa enjoys with his elves on his days off!
Imagine taking your family away to Lapland, you will probably imagine snowy log cabins buried with a forest. Days spent in the snow and creating magical memories before heading back to your cabin for mulled wine and hot chocolate for the children! It really would be a magical experience.
Trips to Lapland and the surrounding areas are definitely on the increase. Whether you choose a short mini-break or longer family holiday there are plenty of packages to choose from. You may be able to get a last-minute break if you get organised or you could start planning a trip for next year. I would choose to head away in the lull between Christmas and New Year. This would extend the celebrations and make a wonderful holiday.
Family log cabin holidays in Lapland suit many families as you benefit from facilities not always available in hotel rooms. It also provides a little more space for children to spread out and have a few home comforts.
I would love to take Erin to experience the snow fun on offer, skiing is not something we do as a family but we could still have lots of fun in the snow and would love to try husky sledding, snowmobiling and reindeer sleigh rides, plus of course meeting Father Christmas himself. Doing all this would really ignite the magic of Christmas and make memories that would never be erased.
Lapland makes an ideal location for many families as the wintery resorts are just a short 15/20 minutes journey from Rovaniemi which runs directly from Gatwick and some regional airports. This makes it a family-friendly trip and of course, it is picture-perfect with a frozen lake and snow-topped trees.
Once the day’s activities are complete then there is also the opportunity to spot the Northern Lights. If conditions are favourable, walk down to the resort’s frozen lake and look to the skies. There are also plenty of dedicated Aurora activities to choose from to increase your chances. There really is something for everyone in family to look forward too.
