When I was younger I used to question the need for travel insurance, it seemed to my younger self a waste of money. Money that could be better spent on a night out or a new top. Yet my parents insisted that I had cover and I soon appreciated their insistence on why I needed travel insurance!
19 years old – fast girls holiday to the party town of Ibiza and I got sick! Good ole Ibiza flu rendered me bedbound for a good few days. I had never had the flu before, and I have never had it that bad since. I needed to see a doctor and had a trip to the hospital too. They plied me with antibiotics and other meds that I wasn’t entirely sure what they were but thankfully, my travel insurance covered them! I dread to think how a 19-year-old me would have been able to pay immediately if it weren’t for my travel insurance.
Then there was the holiday when Erin was poorly with her asthma, and we needed a doctor and more steroids. Erin has had hip dysplasia, so we have more expensive insurance for her, but it is still so very worth it.
Another year, I chipped a bone in my foot after falling off my windsurf and landing on rocks. The pain of that was immense and took quite a while to heal.
