The Euros are in full swing and whether you are supporting all of the home nations or your allegiance is defiant with England, Scotland, Wales, or any other country for that matter, they are certainly exciting. However, this year’s event is a little different than previous tournaments. With Covid-19 restrictions and reduced crowds, it isn’t likely possible to attend the games and the usual fan zones aren’t the same as they have been in the past. But that doesn’t mean you can’t embrace the Euros and cheer on your team.
Watching the matches from home can be just as fun and there are so many advantages to doing so
- There are no crowds. Bonus that you don’t have to worry about the covid restrictions and social distancing either.
- You don’t have to worry about the weather. Even though it is summer, sometimes the UK doesn’t get the memo.
- You get the best seats in the house. Literally!
So how can you embrace Euro 2020 at home? Here are some of the ways to do it.
Fly the flag
A great way to have some fun with the Euros is to fly the flag. Get a big flag of the team you are supporting and display it proudly. You could do this inside on a wall, in your garden, or even outside the front of your house. Some people simply place a flag in their window frame and shut it so that flag dangles below. It shows you are invested with your team and supporting them the best way you can.
Have a party
Of course, you have to be strict on the number of people you have in your home, but restrictions state that you can now have people inside your home and up to thirty people in your garden. So why not have a Euro 2020 party? You could do a BBQ on a nice day and even set up a projector and screen outside. You could decorate your home with the colours of the team you are supporting.
Get in all of the drinks and snacks
If you are just staying at home with the family and watching a game then why not treat yourself to some snacks and drinks? You could enjoy some treats you wouldn’t normally have, or have a theme night depending on which game you are watching. Perhaps Spanish snacks when Spain is on or Italian drinks when watching Italy.
Theme your evening meal
You could take this one step further and theme your evening meal around the team you are watching or supporting. For example, Spanish Tapas for Spain, Pizza for Italy, or traditional fish and chips for England.
Have fun guessing the scores
Sometimes it is fun to guess the scores. You could print out all the upcoming games for the next few days and then have fun predicting the scores and results. Maybe giving points for a correct score or team win. The person with the most points at the end wins. You could even extend it to the whole tournament and guess things such as the Golden boot winner.
Make it interesting
Why not make those predictions a little more interesting? Perhaps that could be a price for the winner. Some money or something they have wanted if you are getting the children involved. It makes watching the game even more interesting as you are hoping to have predicted the correct result.
Set reminders on your phone
If you aren’t too good at remembering when a team is playing or what time the games start then set up reminders on your phone. This will ensure that you never miss a game you want to watch. A great tip would be to add the channel that is showing the game as well. You can get all this information online but the main two channels showing Euro 2020 coverage is ITV and BBC.
Organise a street party
Last of all, why not organise a street party. This could be a great way to celebrate the final of Euro 2020, or a special match that you are all interested in. You could all stay in your front gardens, or place a screen and projector in the street if you don’t have any traffic. This could be such a great way to create a memory for the event and something everyone can get involved in.
