Decorating a child’s room can be tremendous fun as you can really let your imagination run wild – more so than you can when designing an adult’s bedroom! You can create pirate ships, fairy realms, and jungle adventure playgrounds. If you have a daughter or want to create a fantasy bedroom for a girl, here are some ideas on how to do just that!

Fantasy Furniture
Obviously, your girl’s bedroom will need some furniture such as a bed, wardrobe, nightstand, and dresser. You can look online or in a local furniture for girls bedroom sets if you want everything to match, or buy individual pieces for a mix and match look.
A unique bed can really set the scene for a fantasy bedroom. For example, you could buy a bed in the shape of a house, a camper van, a boat, or an ornate princess bed. In addition, you could upcycle old pieces of bedroom furniture for an original look by painting it or decoupaging pictures onto it.
Older girls might love a bed with a built-in television or one with an iPod dock and speakers built into the headboard. Others may appreciate a high sleeper bed with room underneath for a desk, couch, or wardrobe.
Whimsical Walls
Decorating the walls of the bedroom is when you can make the boldest statement with color and texture. Choosing a paint color can be a difficult task as the variety of paint shades available these days is vast. It is best to settle on a color or two before you visit the paint shop as you will be sent mad with the choice available. Choose a color that will best fit the theme of your room decor if you have one, or let your child decide on a paint that most appeals to their taste.
Don’t be afraid to be bold with paint. You can paint rainbow stripes, have each wall a different color or add some glitter and sparkles to the paint for a magical glow.
If you would rather have wallpaper, you won’t be short of options. If your girl is a fan of unicorns, fairies, princesses, or animals, you can find plenty of wall coverings to please them. For some added fantasy, you could paper their bedroom in wallpaper that has glow-in-the-dark patterns on it.
If you are artistic or know somebody who is, you could cover the walls with a beautiful hand-painted mural of a unicorn jumping over a rainbow or a princess in a palace. If you would rather decorate with something less permanent, you can find a wonderful variety of stick-on murals, decals, and transfers online.
Fabulous Flooring
Kids’ rooms need durable flooring, so it’s best not to get something too expensive as you may need to replace it after it has had one too many drinks or bottles of nail polish spilled on it.
Some carpets have girly patterns printed on them or famous characters such as Peppa Pig of Hello Kitty. Younger girls will love these, especially as they are available in shades of pink and purple.
Rubber flooring or vinyl is an excellent solution for kids’ rooms as it is warm, comfortable, and easy to clean. It is also available in a range of funky colors and patterns.
For some softness and comfort, girls will love a big fluffy rug to sit on or one which doubles as a play rug with a doll’s house printed on it or a hopscotch outline.
Awesome Accessories
Accessories will make the fantasy come alive. If you have a theme for the room, such as a magical fairyland, you can buy pieces that will make your girl’s dreams come true. Look for lamps in the shape of toadstools, ceiling lights that look like floating clouds with rainbows or crystal raindrops dangling from them, mirrors decorated to look like a magical looking glass, and clocks in the shape of fairies with whimsical tunes that chime every hour.
Set up a reading nook under a high sleeper bed by laying squishy pillows or beanbags on the floor, hanging fairy lights around the bed, and enclosing the space with billowy curtains. Alternatively, you could buy a pretty teepee or small tent, set it up in the bedroom and adorn it with lights, bunting, and cushions. Older girls might appreciate an egg chair that hangs from the ceiling to use as a chill-out area, a chaise longue, or a recliner chair with a built-in USB socket and speakers.
