Cultivating a garden

Last year we were lucky enough to win a bit of a garden makeover.  It was enough for us to get rid of a large gravelled circle that we inherited in the garden.  We had been at a loss to know what to do with the gravelled area as it sat on concrete and to break that up, and reseed, would cost too much.  We decided on a a circular patio that we would use as a seating area.  The trampoline and other toys would be moved to another section of the garden to break it it into a pretty grown up area whilst still having somewhere safe for Erin to play.  Over the past year or so we have got the garden looking tidier but neither of us are what you would consider green fingered or has a clue about plants so we are still lacking there!

We reviewed an affinity pond which we loved the look of last year, our fish are doing well, we have six in there in now.  This meant that when looking for new seating for the patio I wanted to keep to the same rattan look.  After looking about I found both a great value ratten set and a really good parasol from Homebase in their garden furniture section.  Plus they are an ideal size for our new patio.

The chair set cost  £199.99 and the parasol £74.99 together these really complement the garden. It makes having my coffee in the garden so much more relaxing.  It is amazing that behind our house are some protected tress and these give me a real sense of peace when I sit in the garden.  The trees have lots of squirrels that live in them and as such they are frequent visitors to our garden.  The trees are one of the  things that we adored about this house when we first viewed it.

My garden is becoming my happy place and now I just need someone who knows what they are doing to come plant the garden with colour!  Thankfully I do have a green fingered popa who is getting me regular cuttings from his garden which, given time will add the splash of colour I want.  I think getting a garden to how you want it takes much more effort than I had anticipated and unlike when you decorate an indoor space cultivating a garden takes more time and effort and the results take longer to appear.

It is a good job we don’t plan on moving anytime soon!
