Tapas Cooking with Jet2 Holidays

When travelling I like to try local dishes and be a little adventurous at mealtimes. For me, one of the greatest gifts of travelling is immersing yourself in a different culture and trying new things – both food and activities.

When I was in Brno recently I enjoyed eating traditional Czech dishes and as I said in my blog post 72 Hours to Visit Brno in the Czech Republic the food was so affordable in addition to being yummy! Often searching out where the locals eat is a great endorsement for a restaurant.

Therefore when Jet2.com invited me to a Canaries Cookery Class I was quick to yes! I love tapas and often eat out with friends, I love the shareable plates and small bite sizes as it is such a social way to eat together. I am definitely a little bit of everything type foodie!

The event was held at Little Kitchen Bristol who offer different cooking classes but can also be hired out for group events. We had the venue exclusively and rolled our sleeves up to learn more about Canaries’ cooking.

We made a selection of dishes including patatas bravas, chorizo and of course croquetas which are my absolute fave! The croquetas was probably the most challenging as you have to deep fry them at the right heat or the explode!

This short cookery class gave me the confidence to be more adventurous at home as well as when I am in restaurants or visiting other countries. Many of the dishes are made from easy-to-follow recipes and I have since made chorizo tapas at home and it is a firm favourite with the teenagers!

One way to encourage children and young adults to be more adventurous with trying new foods is definitely when travelling. It is easy to sample street food or other foods in supermarkets. This way you are exposing them to new flavours and experiences without them really realising it. Sharing plates can really help with this as usually if something isn’t to someone’s taste they will be something else that is.

If you are looking for great family travel destinations then you will be hard placed to beat a family trip to Gran Canaria where the sun shines all year round. There is plenty to do for all the family but it is definitely worth trying the local cafes and restaurants for their local specialities.

Jet2.Com offer family holidays to the ear and you can fly from many airports including Bristol which is local to me.
