Sustainability Tips for New Properties

Congratulations, you have a new property. Now, it’s time to settle in and enjoy it with your family or get it ready for the rental market. Either way, there is a lot still to do, and more of the priorities need to be sustainability. A new property is a chance to plant the seed of sustainability at home.

Renewable Energy

After you have settled into a new home or bought a property that you intend to sell, it’s time to invest in its sustainability infrastructure. Sustainability makes a home more comfortable, more valuable, and easier to sell in a modern marketplace – three great reasons for eco investments.

Make your first investment a switch to renewable energy. Renewable energy is less expensive and more sustainable than conventional oil and gas; it is also more common nowadays. Switch to renewables by changing providers or by installing solar panels to a wind turbine in the home.

Windows and Doors

Since 50% of the energy generated is lost through the windows, doors and roof, it makes sense to invest in energy-saving bifold doors. Bifold doors are attractive and simple to install. To open bifold doors, apply some pressure to the handle and enjoy the summer air in your dining room.

Bifold doors are an obvious choice if you have a dining room or living room that looks onto the garden. On pleasant days you can open them a little or a lot depending on the weather. During the colder months, the bifold doors maintain warmth in the home thanks to their double glazing.

Smart Systems

The world is becoming smarter. It started with smart thermostats, but now, there is a smart device for all aspects of the home, everything from lighting to your general health. Smart devices can even order shopping for you when your fridge runs low on your essential items

However, a smart thermostat is still a must-have device, especially when you want to create a sustainable home to live in or sell on the market. A smart thermostat can detect the temperature of the room and adjust it accordingly. A smart thermostat can also be connected to a phone.

Eco Lifestyle

Creating a sustainable home requires some infrastructure changes, but it also requires some changes to your lifestyle. Often, these two things go hand-in-hand. For instance, switching to renewable energy can make your energy conscious, changing some of your lifestyle habits.

It takes a little effort to live more sustainably; you have to think about what you will eat, where you will buy things from, and how to invest your money without supporting an unsustainable system, but it’s worth it. Living a sustainable lifestyle is about adopting the right lifestyle values.

Reuse Furniture

Whether you have moved into a new family home or secured a potential rental apartment, you need to think about furniture at some point. There’s nothing to stop you from buying new furniture locally or online, but why not support the circular economy and buy some secondhand? Secondhand furniture is more affordable and has more character than newer items.
