We are rather spoilt with beautiful countryside here in Gloucestershire and I will admit we don’t always recognise what is on our doorstep. However last week we headed into the Forest of Dean to visit Puzzlewood which is a gorgeous wood with paths, secret caves and rock formations. It really is a fairies garden! Tree Fu Tom’s opening credits are also filmed here which we told Erin. She then spent ages hunting for him! Doctor Who and other programmes have also used this stunning natural environment in episodes.
We headed out to explore the wood area which is not suitable for buggies and I wasn’t sure how Erin would cope but cope she did! She loved exploring the wood and stepping on the stepping stones. The whole place is a maze of twists and turns and Chloe and Dylan both enjoyed exploring too. It was lovely to get outside enjoy the final fling of summer sunshine and get some fresh air before term started again.
Puzzlewood also has animals on hand that you can get up close too. Erin befriended a goat! She also liked the fluffy ducks.
Puzzlewood really is a lovely woodland walk and a fun afternoon out. After exploring the wood the children lost themselves in a maze for a bit before we found a nice spot for our picnic lunch. You can buy food on site or take your own. There is also a play park with a sandpit which kept Erin happy for a good half hour. It really made me grateful to remember what is on our doorstep.

I never knew that about Tree Fu Tom! We have never been but sounds like we ought to!
I didn’t realise they had animals at Puzzlewood! We drove out there a couple of months ago and then realised once we got to the entrance that pushchairs are not permitted 🙁 Unlike Erin, my youngest was definitely not old enough to walk and so we had to visit Clearwell Caves instead. We will have to return next summer, it looks like an enjoyable day out.
