The weather has threatened to turn really cold this week and I have been preparing by making sure we all have some nice new warm jumpers and some lovely soup ready for lunchtimes. Chloe is wary of there being early snow, after breaking her ankle last January she is still wary and I don’t think she will enjoy the winter season. I am a big fan of being warm and can’t bear being really cold.
I have also been looking at other ways we can save money in the run up to Christmas. Having a teen and tween I have realised that Christmas was so simple when they were young. The carpet was covered in toys and big boxes but the wish list didn’t break the bank. Now the wish lists consist of expensive stunt scooters, designers clothes and electrical goods which is much more expensive. Therefore we have been looking for other ways we can save at this time of year. Many seem to believe that saving money and energy means going without or being less comfortable but it doesn’t need to.
Your actions can reduce your energy expenditure and costs, but suppliers can help too. E.ON wants to actively encourage consumers to save energy by reducing consumption. It might sound strange that a company wants to sell less of its product, but when more people are doing their bit to have a positive effect on the planet it’s refreshing to find a major corporation who thinks along the same lines.
E.ON has launched a special online tool to help you work out how you could make savings and there is wealth of energy saving information on their website for customers who manage their account online, to help you see how you use energy and where you could make positive changes.
I know we could turn our thermostat down a notch and it wouldn’t really make a difference. Estimates show that turning down the central heating by just one degree could shave £60 off the average household’s gas bill (depending on your usage). I am always telling the children to add another layer rather than turning up the heating. Another way we are now saving is that we turn appliances off rather than leave them on stand by. This adds up especially when including the children games consoles and TV’s. All this will add to reducing bills which is the number one priority for people.
Using the new E.ON energy saving toolkit will help you on the road towards running a more fuel-efficient home. It even includes a comparison tool which will allow you to compare your energy usage with similar homes so you can keep an eye on your practices in relation to those around you.
