Tips and tricks to #lightentheload this spring

When I started freelancing I had many plans for our home. I imagined that home would become this peaceful. tranquil beautifully organised home.  Eighteen months on and the cupboard under the stairs is just as cluttered as it ever was and although the house is clean it is rarely organised.  I need more genius solutions to sort and organise our lives, I know what I would ideally do but my skills are lacking even though the ideas are not!

However Spring has officially started and I am determined to get ahead.  I am tackling a job a day in-between working and writing.  Laundry is never ending in our house, with three children you can imagine how it piles up but throw in the sports kits from a teen that plays hockey at least three times a week, a son that plays football and a twinkle toes who dances at the weekend you can see how the pile keeps growing.

Therefore when Ecover offered to help #Lightentheload I snapped their hands off!  They have sent me a plan to get organised and help get the washing under control.  My washing machine is starting to feel the strain and it has got grubby inside which has affected the quality of the wash.  The first  part of the plan was to run a wash with just hot water and a bottle of white vinegar.  This cleaned out the residue and freshen up the machine – this should be done yearly.

Tips and tricks to #Lightentheload

  • Scheduling washing and ironing keeps you organised.  This I already do.  I have set days for stripping each bed and I iron every Sunday afternoon in my bedroom whilst catching Casualty on catch up!
  • Treat ingrained stains need to be treated with Ecover Stain Removal as soon as possible.  Erin at six is the one that still drops lasagne down her white school tops! Another stain we regularly have is biro and apparently sparying it with hairspray prior to washing will make it disappear.
  • Clean up whites by adding 1/2 a cup of lemon juice to the wash alongside the detergent.  This is perfect for refreshing those school shirts.
  • Greasy stains can be eliminated by dabbing the mark with hair shampoo before washing.

These tips work – I have tried them and it is good to know that the common problems I have with three school age children can be washed away with a tiny bit of effort.  Now I just need a plan to organise the rest of the household chores – anyone know a company that will come and deep clean and organise a few of the dumping grounds we have created?

  1. Argh, I didn’t realise we were supposed to clean our washing maching yearly! This is something I always forget to do-whoops. Great tips for getting rid of tomato stains, they drive me crazy and my two seem to love covering themselves in tomato based products at dinner. I am going to have to look out ecover as it sounds really good 🙂

  2. I clean our washing machine out fairly regularly – basically every time I wash the dog’s bedding, I do a hot wash and then a thorough clean through afterwards. It does make such a difference.
