A timeline of parenting firsts.

I have gadgets and gizmo’s a plenty – these words might be left over from our fab holiday in Disneyworld courtesy of Ariel who Erin fell in love with in Florida but they also apply to parents in a modern society. I frequently read blog posts of essential items parents need when having children, many of these products are not essential for all but many make life easier. Today I saw this infographic and found it both interesting and informative. As a sociologist it was interesting to note that Maternity Grants have been about since 1911 and safety in the form of booster seats which have been about since the 1930’s. It seems that some were both safety aware and also concerned about the welfare rights and needs of families. Yet it seems crazy that we waited for so long for better equality and paid paternity leave.

Likewise the statistics on breafeeding was disappointing, especially how the general public seem to feel about breafeeding in public. When I fed I did so in public and felt no qualms about doing so (well after the first time anyway) I never felt any disapproving looks or faced any negativity but it seems that is not the experience of all.

What information do you find interesting in this infographic?
