A letter now that you are three and a half.

Lets not forget a half is a big deal when you are little, it sets you apart form those without the half.  Therefore I thought it was time for a letter now that you are three and a half.  I can’t believe that you are three and a half Erin, where has the time gone?  You make me so proud because life hasn’t exactly been a smooth journey for you so far.  There have been major bumps in the road but you don’t let it hold you back even if your body doesn’t quite do what you want it to.

As if damned DDH isn’t enough for you to contend with your other joints don’t help much either. They are too bendy, they don’t hold you up well and it causes extra problems for you. It is probably the reason your ears kept perforating and why you have needed grommits. It also explains why you still fall over lots and why in the mornings you cannot get yourself out of bed. Those things are relatively minor and we can cope, but it does upset me to see you in pain.  You tell me too often that you hurt and you still can’t walk far compared with your peers.  That is a bit crap to be honest.  Mummy and daddy would do anything to take the pain for you.  Last week we found out your legs are different lengths.  I don’t know if that is a change or not.  You had a length difference before the salters but it was hoped that it would even out after surgery.  We have waited a year since surgery now and it is nearly time for the  xrays again.  I dread them with every fibre of my being.  We are desperate for bone growth, for the socket to deepen.  Yet the leg length difference pointed out by the physio last week taunts me that the growth hasn’t been enough.  The physio is going to sort you out with a shoe raise in the hope it will stop your ankle and knee hurting so much.

Yet you continue to smile, to entertain us and now that you are three and a magical half you are becoming so funny.  You are less baby and more grown up.  Just the other day you had us all giggling.  Dressed in a camel costume you were showing off:

‘Daddy daddy’ you screeched.

‘I can’t see you Erin’  replied Daddy

‘I’m here, I’m in the camel’

Not your dressed as a camel or you’re here, but I’m in the camel, like it had eaten you.  It made us all laugh.  You are a born entertainer and love singing down the microphone – you sing all day.  Not just nursery ryhmes but listening to you singing Robbie Williams Candy is so funny.  You often want to get yourself dressed in the mornings and you put together interesting outfits!  You are developing a real sense of what you like.  You have barely taken off the sunhat you choose last week.  No baseball caps for you!

You are so bossy at times but have us all running around after you. However you always want to please and one word of warning or a reprimand from daddy or me reduces you to tears. We then find ourselves telling you its alright and sudenly all is ok in Erin’s world again. Everyone comments on how polite you are. You please and thank everyone all the time. Even those poor nurses who stole your blood were thanked. They were enchanted by you.

I love sneaking up on you at nursery and watching you with your friends. You are loud, confident and happy. It makes my heart swell. I know you will continue to take it all in your stride. It may not be a smooth journey but I know the end destination for you will be great. As you will go wherever you have set your hearts desire.

Love you always, mummy x
