My biggest girl is turning 18 and I have been questioning birthday gifts to mark this big occasion. I remember my 18th vividly and received some lovely gifts that I could keep. They included little trinkets and jewelry, but there was also stuff that didn’t last the test of time.
We are having a family party and there will be a few surprises along the way, but I am a little stuck on gift ideas. I am aware of just how many 18th Birthday wine glasses I spot in charity shops, suggesting that they probably are not the best gift idea!
However, I do love personalised gifts so will look for something that is personalised and also a keepsake.
Styles change and certainly, the world now is a very different place to what it was when I was turning 18. I remember the gifts were things like watches or bracelets. Yet Chloe has had all these types of gifts previously. She wears a Fitbit and uses her phone to tell the time, so a watch is redundant. She is lucky enough to already own a beautiful Pandora bracelet and so whilst the traditional charm will be well received it is not an expensive a gift. Turning 18 is still a rite of passage and I want to mark it in an appropriate way. Clothing like a cool Bleach Mayuri Kurotsuchi shirt can also be a great option.
Instead, I have been thinking about creating more memories. I am already planning a photoshoot for the three children as I want to capture them together before Chloe heads off to University. I have also been looking at clever birthday gift ideas at Groupon. Chloe could have a spa day for example which she could enjoy with friends and costs under £100. Afternoon tea with a friend is just £12 and that would be appreciated after an afternoon of shopping. I also have another idea but I am keeping that under wraps for now, just in case she (or one of her friends) reads this post!
In order to have a few things to open I plan to dress up my vouchers using one of these creative ways to give gift cards. There will also be a few things to unwrap because everyone likes a pressie to unwrap too! I could start using Groupon and stocking up on those essentials she is going to need for Uni although I am not too sure she will appreciate a kettle or new dinner set for her 18th birthday!
What did you get for your 18th can you remember? Do you still have any of them now?
