Owning a utility room was a definitive plus when buying this, our forever home five years ago. A place to have the noisy washing machine out of the kitchen, a work surface for the countless bottled drinks we seem to get through each week, the wine cooler which is a compulsory household addition after having three children, and even a dartboard and surround on the wall! Now it is also home to my Brabantia Flip Bin.
That is what my utility looks like, oh and storage for the hoover and our bin. However my utility is having a make-over, it is catching up with the rest of the house in my aim to declutter, tidy and organise. However, my home needs to be practical as well as stylish and that is where my new bin comes.
Brabantia asked me if I would like to add a dash of colour to my utility with the new flip bin. My only decision was to decide on the colour from mineral pink, passion red or metallic mint (other colours also available). I went for the metallic mint as I am having a thing for pastel colours right now. The bin looks great but as I said I need practical in a house of five people and this hits the mark there too.
My son’s idea of scraping his plate after dinner would involve stamping on the old bin pedal which would then hit the wall and he would scrape some into the bin, some on the floor and manage to get some down the side of the bin. This left the wall permanently marked, me permanently moaning at him the bin looking permanently grubby.
Fast forward to my new bin with its one finger opening that means it opens fully by itself, the inner bucket adds a pop of colour and the bags actually fit properly which means no more bits on the floor or down the side of the bin. The bin is perfectly sized and I have noticed that I am using less bags than my old bin. The bin no longer hits the wall which means that I can refresh the paint knowing it will stay pristine.

The brabantia bins also come with a 10 year guarantee which I think is excellent and although they are more expensive initially than many other bins, knowing that I have got it for at least 10 years evens this out. My utility is now a thing of beauty and if only the husband would move the dartboard to the garage along with the full sized snooker table and table tennis table I would be totally happy. He would have a games room and I would have the utility shown in glossy mags.
