A little mum time away from the home is good for the soul and over the past few years, I have learnt not to feel the dreaded mum guilt but instead pull on a party dress and head out for giggles, prosecco and fun with those who make you laugh. It helps that my children are older, infact I’d say it is another benefit when your little ones become big ones that you get back some time. You can even have a lie in after a night out out!
This past week I headed out of Gloucester, swapping the country for the bright London lights, with a friend and came back refreshed and with sore feet!
It started with Holly asking me to go and see Magic Mike with her. Now I honestly (hand on heart) had no idea what this was and assumed it was a magic show! I did realise before we went but I had not been to anything like it before and still wasn’t sure what to expect. Can a feminist really go to this type of show?
We decided to treat ourselves to an afternoon tea and I had a voucher from Buy A Gift that was Time Together Smart Box which allows you to choose an experience that you will enjoy. After browsing I opted for bottomless prosecco with afternoon tea in The Lanes of London, Park Lane. Talk about decadent!
Before having the experience we did wonder if bottomless really would be, or if you need to attract the waiter’s attention everytime you wanted a top up. Well, rest assured it was bottomless, for two hours our glasses were full. My glass was never empty – despite my best efforts! It was washed down with the most exquisite cakes and hot tea. I opted for fruity teas and was recommended a blackcurrant and hibiscus which was divine.
After tea we jumped in a tube over to our hotel. We were staying at Point A hotel which is an affordable hotel just a few minutes away from Kings Cross station. Therefore it was perfectly positioned for us as we zipped around central London. Point A was a delight as I wasn’t sure what to expect from the budget friendly brand. What we got was:
- Comfy Hypnos beds
- Great power showers
- 40 inch smart TV
- Hairdryer, mood lighting and more.
Check in was quick and easy and we grabbed a glass of water to take upstairs to our room which was perfectly formed, yes it was small but it was a base for a night out. There are twin and double rooms and we had a twin. The bathroom was fab, the power shower delivered and we had plenty of space for getting ready. The lighting in the room is some of the best I’ve had in a hotel and just what you want when you are getting ready to head out.
We then headed back out. So onto Magic Mike and what I thought! I really enjoyed the show and the dancing was simply amazing. The show is not sleazy in the slightest and is told with humour. I didn’t know the show came about to move away from the strip show scene and I can tell you I saw no nudity, no penis’s or bums! Instead, I saw incredible dancing and the 90 mins flew by.
After the show, Holly and I watched in both horror and awe as others played in the casino. Watching the vast amounts people were betting was astounding, £50 notes being bandied around like I use 2p’s on the penny machines! Our money stayed firmly in our pockets but it was a sight to see!
After a great nights sleep back at Point A we got up for the continental breakfast that is just £9 per person. The breakfast is all set out in open fridges and you help yourself to pastries and cereals. The pots were plentiful and again much better than I imagined they would be. We had yogurts with create-your-own porridge bowls, yogurts, fruits, juice, and a steaming hot tea or freshly ground coffee. There was plenty of seating area and I liked the communal feel where people of all nationalities sat together and ate. There was no rush and we took our time enjoying the hot coffee.
We really liked the hotel and would definitely stay there again. I would also look at Point A hotels in other locations because they do offer great value without compromising on customer service and expectations.
