There are some things that you just associate with Christmas, mistletoe, mince pies and Wham for example. Remember that word association game from Timmy Mallet in the 1980’s? Well I’m sure Warnink’s Advocaat would have been shouted out with the word christmas. For me my memories of Christmas include the classic Snowball drink, put it simply Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without Warninks!
Christmas Girls Night in Party Ideas
With the new trend for staying in rather than going out I thought we could put together the ultimate girls night in for the run up to Christmas. The benefit of a night in is that you can tailor the fun for you. There are no taxi costs, no going out into the cold and no random people gatecrashing your fun. Here is my recipe for success that will ensure you and the girls have a fun evening to remember.
Ingredients: smiles, Warninks Advocaat (available from all supermarkets), classic music, dancing feet,
Method:
- Take your favourite group of girls and put a date in the diary.
- Prepare the scene with your festive decorations, pinterest can provide inspiration. Get the tree out and cosy up your home’
- Pour yourself into some comfy clothes or set a glam up theme, remember to tell your friends the dress code.
- Bake up some festive snacks and Christmassy canapes like these healthy pitta snacks from party redoutdoor. Keep the canapes small, if they are more than a mouthful, then accidents will happen as guests attempt to juggle a glass and a plate while eating.
- Mix up your playlist with some Christmas classics. It is a time to get the karaoke voices in tune and download your Christmas favourite from Whams ‘Last Christmas’ to ‘Do they know it’s Christmas’
- Turn up the volume everyone likes a sing and dance at a party!
- Stir in some giggles with a party games like ‘Guess what is in the stocking’. This is played by putting random things in a stocking. Once it’s stuffed, tie a ribbon or string around the top of the stocking so that no one can peek. Pass it around to everyone so they can feel what’s inside. Give them note cards so that they can write down what their guesses are. The person who guesses the most correct answers wins.
- Toast yourselves with some Christmas cocktails including the iconic Snowball which is made by shaking the advocaat and lime juice or lime cordial together. Pour into an ice filled highball. Top up with lemonade or soda.
- Drink plenty and make the cocktails look fun by serving in different glasses like this retro milk bottle.
Once you have the ingredients and the recipe for success it is time to relax with your friends and have some fun. Christmas is a time to make memories with those we care about. So once the evening starts remember why you invited your friends, switch relax and enjoy their company.

Oh my gosh I do love a decent snowball! It was probably my first alcoholic drink as a special treat at Christmas! Here they make an amazing hot eggnog with Advocaat at the Christmas markets, which I much prefer to Gluhwein! 🙂

OMG I must sound so German but lime cordial, soda and advocaat? That sounds so wrong. Doesn’t it curdle or go funny?
My favourite way to have advocaat is in those cute little chocolate shot glasses or in a sundae that we call Swedish sundae. It’s got nothing to do with Sweden and is an entirely German thing but we serve vanilla ice-cream with advocaat, apple sauce and some whipped cream. Absolutely amazing!
