Dancing her way through childhood.

I look at my teen and can’t believe how the years are passing by. I love spending time with her and we are currently playing hockey together and attending to the gym together. Sharing this time with her is lovely – even if she is trying to teach me how to do the plank, at which I am failing!

Chloe is very sporty and whereas I was only really into hockey, she surpasses me with natural talent in most sports and forms of dance. Dance is still one of her greatest talents and I think that this gives her the grounding for other sports as she is so strong. To me dance is both an art and a sport. Dance has really given her a lot of flexibility and core control, which she then engages to execute the other sports she participates in, and so well at that.

Chloe does ballet, tap, modern plus a body control class and therefore dancing has also taught her about different forms of music. I have no rhythm, so I enjoy watching her express herself to different types of music. Chloe has been in many productions and festivals over the years and I enjoy watching her do modern fast paced dances the most.

The equipment needed for dance has always been manageable- a few leotards and the different shoesand she is done! It got a little more expensive this year as she has just been fitted her first pair of pointe shoes.  However compared with other sports the cost is not as much.  Her pointes will last a while as her feet are not growing quite as fast these days!

Dancing has taught Chloe so many lessons, especially perseverance.  About age 8 she nearly wanted to give up as she was finding it hard.  Now there is no way she would give up her dancing lessons!  Chloe has also learnt many different forms of dance, which I think, will always stay with her.  She has achieved highly in her dance exams, which boost her confidence, and she is forever dancing around the house.  Chloe is so much more graceful than I have been!  She is also flexible from dancing and very fit and strong.  She is tall and slim but don’t let that fool you with how strong she is!

Chloe really enjoys her dancing, so much that she dances for almost four hours on a Saturday and two and half hours on a Monday evening.  It really is a passion.  She has enjoyed the competitive elements of festivals, in addition to putting on productions.  Yet she enjoys spending time with her friends dancing and keeping fit.  Chloe has recently started body control and is now determined to get into the splits position!

  1. She and Fran would get on very well I think. Pointe shoes and lots of exams here too; Fran’s on a roll of 5 distinctions in a row. Going to be gutting when that breaks but she’s in to intermediate levels now which might get a bit tough!
