Do you still feel the need for adventure?

photo_Snorkeling_With_Whale_Sharks_In_Mexico_Snorkeling_With_Whale_SharksIt is the final year of my thirties and I want to mark it in some way.  Just today I have seen an amazing blogger opportunity being posted up and thought  that’s it, that is what I want to do.  I’m not going to say anymore about it but I am looking for adventure.  I am quite a confident person and I love trying new things whether it is climbing through the trees or running a half marathon I like to set myself goals and to push myself.  When I was at school I did everything; hockey, windsurfing, kayaking, climbing and gave it my all.

Somewhere along the way I have not done as much for me.  Motherhood and raising babies took all my time and energy but they are getting older now, they are getting more independent.  Chloe is off on her own adventure to Ardeche in July and I am so pleased for her and I look back nostalgically when I did similar things.

I still have goals and dreams and plan to see some of them realised this next year.  I will be running another half marathon in September. I joke to friends that I still feel the same now as I did as a teen and I think many of us do.  I have this self given sabbatical before I decide what my next long term career move will be.  It seems that this is the time to tick off some of my goals.

I did consider doing a 40 before I’m 40 list but I don’t honestly think I could do it all – there are only 52 weekends left!!  Instead I think I will choose ten things that I want to achieve this next year and there is nothing stopping me if I set myself to it.  I would love to get more active again and I have a willing sidekick in Chloe and it would be great to share things with her.  She is so like me in so many ways from enjoying the same sports and having the same go for it carefree attitude.

There are places in the world I long to visit and Mexico is one of those destinations. I would love to snorkel in Cancun and visit the Chichen Itza.  Snokelling would bring my love of water adventure together with the travelling bug.  My first big trip to a more usual destination was when I was 17 and went to Russia.  We stayed off the beaten track and really got to know the real people and the beautiful architecture.  I imagine Mexico to be like that too.  I hope it is still authentic and you can experience the culture of Mexico.

Experiencing the nightlife in Cancun would also be high on my to do list.  I imagine it be fun, vibrant and colourful.  Just what I look for on holiday and then by day I can relax on those white sandy beaches – bliss.

However that travelling will wait and when I get there I will enjoy and embrace every second knowing that it was somewhere I always wanted to visit.  In the meantime I am going to challenge myself with new hobbies.

Do you still feel the need for adventure and what is your big one to tick off?  I would love to know so do leave a comment and tell me.

  1. I LOVE travelling ( see it’s in capitals lol) and I want to go to Japan next. You sound very adventurous. I must admit I like a little adventure but it must have home comforts too 😉 I could never camp any more, nice hotels all the way for me!
