Now that the rain has come and playing in the garden is less likely we need to find new ways to keep our children and teenagers busy and occupied whilst we are still is self-isolation. If they are wanting a change from crafting they could be interested in baking which is why I am sharing an easy homemade recipe for pepperoni pizza roll-ups.
These are a cheats Pepperoni Pizza Roll as I used ready-made dough rather than fussing with making my own, plus flour is in short supply right now! Pepperoni pizza is always an instant crowd-pleaser. Packed with mozzarella cheese and pepperoni, these rolls are extra awesome dipped in ketchup!

We have overloaded with sweet treats in recent days including these Nutella Chocolate Twists (which are so good) so we decided to create some savory recipes instead.
These pizza rolls are great for lunches or a mid-afternoon snack. Are you finding that you are all eating more on lockdown, we certainly are! You can make pizza bites vegetarian or meat-based, as the pizza rolls are an ideal way to use up whatever is left in the fridge. We had some pepperoni that was near its end date so we used that up, but pretty much anything you would find on a traditional pizza can be used in this easy recipe.
These simple pizza rolls ups are fun to make and the kids can make them allowing you to get on with some other jobs. They are filling and nutritious and we find that if we get the children involved in making their meals they are far more likely to eat them with no fuss!
Ingredients
Method
- Divide the ready-rolled pizza dough into 8 equal strips

- Spread 1 tbsp of tomato sauce onto each strip, then quarter all the pepperoni and evenly distributed to all the 8 strips. Divide the shredded mozzarella cheese to 8 portions and put it on top of the strips. Roll all the strips up.

- Grease a muffin tin with melted butter and place the roll-ups inside

- Put garlic powder, salt and pepper in the rest of the melted butter, mix together and then brush the mixture to the top of the pizza roll-ups. (Optional: add some shredded cheddar cheese onto the top of the roll-ups for extra cheesiness)

- Bake at 180°C on oven fan setting for 15mins

Let me know what variations of the pizza wheels your family enjoys. We used ready to roll pizza dough from Tesco but if you cannot get any puff pastry makes a good alternative and you can still follow the same principles.
