Hot chocolate bombs are chocolate spheres filled with hot chocolate mix and lots of marshmallows! They have taken the internet by storm and are the perfect winter treat for adults and kids alike. Simply pour steaming hot milk over the top and watch the chocolate melt away and release those marshmallows into your milk.
The hot chocolate bombs also look great and will make a great gift if popped in a bag and tied up with ribbon. My kids have been desperate to have a go at making these lucky charm chocolate bombs since they saw them on Tik Tok.

Now that we are homeschooling again I thought that this makes a great lesson, after all, it is a bit food tech, maths and science all working together! It is also a great way to use up any leftover chocolate that is still in the house. We have made lucky charm bombs – this is an American cereal but Tesco sells it too!
Therefore if you have kids asking how to make Lucky Charm chocolate bombs, look no further as this is the post for you!
What you need to make chocolate bombs:
Ingredients
1 Cup chocolate chips
6 Tbsp hot chocolate powder we used Cadbury Drinking Hot Chocolate
Lucky Charms marshmallows / you can substitute for other mini marshmallows
Makes 3 bombs

Recipe for Lucky Charm Hot Chocolate Bombs
Step 1: Melt the chocolate chips in the microwave for 30 seconds. Stir and heat again for another 30 seconds. Repeat until the chocolate chips are completely melted. Do not overcook the chocolate.
Step 2: Place the chocolate mold on a baking sheet for stability. Add 2 tablespoons of chocolate to each cavity. Make sure to completely cover the cavities by using the back of the spoon to spread. You want to spread the chocolate evenly all the way up to the edges.

Step 3: Place the baking sheet in the freezer for 10 to 15 minutes. You want your chocolate to be completely frozen. It will be easier to manipulate
Step 4: Gently remove the chocolate half-spheres from the mold and place them on the baking sheet. Tip – Use latex gloves to avoid melting the half-spheres and getting fingerprints on them.

Step 5: Fill 3 of the half-spheres with hot chocolate powder. Add a few Lucky Charms marshmallows into the half-spheres.

Step 6: Warm up an empty plate by placing it under hot water for a few seconds or warm up the plate in the microwave. Place one of the empty chocolate half-spheres on the warm plate to slightly melt the edges then quickly place it on top of a half-sphere already filled with hot chocolate mix. Repeat the same thing with the other half-spheres.

Step 7: Melt a small amount of white chocolate chips in the microwave and drizzle it on the chocolate bombs.

How to use chocolate bombs
Fill your mug 3/4 full of milk, pour into a jug and warm up in the microwave or in a pan. Once the milk is warm simply drop the hot chocolate bomb into the mug and pour the hot milk over and watch it melt into the perfect warming drink. Stir and drink.
What size mold for hot chocolate bombs?
I bought a large cavity mold from Amazon to make the hot chocolate bombs and it seems to be the perfect size 100ml (3.5oz) 6 cavity ( around 2.6″ per hole )
Using a silicone mold means that it is easy to clean. The mold is available for freezer and microwave use. It is oven-safe and dishwasher-safe. Flexible construction ensures easy removal of the chocolate bomb.

What are cup sizes
I often measure ingredients in cup sizes as it has become a more popular method of weighing and portioning ingredients. I have a set of cups from Amazon and fine them very useful. They are also widely available in supermarkets too.
How long do hot chocolate bombs last?
Once made the hot chocolate bombs will last a up to about 4 months if stored in a dry container. Of course if you have a sweet tooth they are likely to only last a few days!!
