Essential Gardening Jobs to Tackle in November

The garden is shutting down for the winter but now is the time to complete some garden maintenance and garden jobs in order to reap the rewards in the spring. There are a number of essential gardening jobs to tackle in November keep it in tip-top condition and to ensure that when it comes to spring we are able to enjoy it once more.

• Firstly cover your garden furniture or if you can put it away in the garage even better. Covering the garden seats ensures that they don’t get battered by the weather in the colder months. It means that it will last longer and look better in the spring when you are ready to be sitting outside drinking coffee once again.
• Get in a final grass cut before it gets too wet. This helps keep it looking tidy over the winter.
• Look at the areas of grass that need replacing after the wear and tear of the children playing in the garden this summer. Plan to purchase grass seeds from The Grass People that meet your needs and will get your lawn green once again.
• Rake up fallen leaves and debris. We have beautiful pinecone trees that surround our house. They are stunning but shed lots of debris. These need to be raked up in order to keep the lawn healthy.

• If you haven’t already aerated your lawn, there’s still time to do it before winter sets in. You can use either a lawn aerator or simply insert a garden fork at regular intervals and lean it back slightly to let air in.
• Create compost bins for collecting fallen leaves and dead plant material. These can be used next summer to feed your borders.
• Make a water butt to collect the rainwater, this will provide the water for next summer when we are told to save water where we can.
• There is still time to plant your spring bulbs think daffodils and crocus this will bring a riot of colour after the winter.
• Lift pots off the floor to give them the best chance of not getting waterlogged or beaten by frost.
