Five activities for older children and teens to try in Moliets

Half term was spent in the beautiful Moliets which is in Aquitaine region of France, close to the border with Spain.  Put quite simply it is a perfect base for a real French seaside experience.  The beach is a long expanse of golden sand, there is a plethora of great restaurants and activities for all the family.  I took Dyl, who is 12, on our recent trip with Madame Vacances and already he wants to go back! There will be a couple of posts as there is too much to cover in one post but I wanted to start by explaining why the location works for all the family but especially for children that like to spend their time doing activities.

  • We packed in so many fun activities from surfing to tree top adventures.  Firstly we spent a few hours hanging around in the trees.  We were shown the safety briefing and taught how to use the harness and hooks before being able to head to the trees.  The Adrenalin Park is suitable for all ages and the layout and design ensures that you can do the parts that appeal to you.  There are challenges for all abilities and you can spend as long as you like there.  It means you can climb and then stop for a picnic before climbing again.  There are zip wires and a cargo net maze. Dyl was apprehensive at first but felt a huge sense of accomplishment afterwards.

The Adrenalin Park costs Adults: 20€, over  14 year olds 15E and 5-10 year olds is 10E.  This price is for three hours inclusive fun.

  • The second activity was a morning surf lesson.  the two hour lesson included the instructor coming to our villa to fit us for wetsuits in advance and then collecting them from the villa after the lesson.  Having never surfed we really enjoyed it and we would go for a weeks lessons if we could. The tuition would be perfect for keeping teens active.  Imagine lessons on the beach each morning, then back to the villa to change and head out for the afternoon or just to chill in the afternoon.  It would give the best of both worlds. I was impressed that after just one lesson Dyl was already kneeling on the board.

The Surf School we used was Ecole de Surf du Golf: which can be found at ecole de surf du golf.

Prices for eight years and above : Introduction to surfing (two hours): 35 €, Individual lesson (one hour): 50 €, Half day private lesson (max. six people): 270 in € total Week course (five days, two hours each day): 140 € These prices are special prices for those staying with Madame Vacances.

  • We also visited the driving range at Moliets Golf Course: golf moliets which all the children enjoyed and it was a great family activity.  It is something that parents can do with the children and no matter on your fitness levels everyone can join in.  The Golf House also does the best chocolate Crepes for afterwards!

  • Skateboarding is an activity many children just pick up at the local skate park with their friends but having a lesson teaches the basics of how to position yourself correctly in order to then go on and master some tricks and skills.  The lesson was held in a local skate park and the young people wear all the safety gear and are taught how to position themselves correctly.  Dylan is left handed and his co ordination is affected by this and for him one of the best things about all the tuition was he learnt how to use his body better.  He realised that in golf he plays right handed, but surfing he is left footed yet right footed for skateboarding!  It just demonstrates how tricky mastering these things can be without experts  guiding you.

Skateboarding with Julien can be booked via his website julien.polisset@yahoo.fr and a 1 ½ hours lesson costs just 25€ per person.

  • The Final activity we tried was Paddleboarding, again Dyl was new to this activity but declared it was ‘awesome’   For someone that has only recently become really water confident recently it was great to  see him stand up paddling.  The lake was incredibly peaceful and allows you to take your time standing up.  We did eventually go down a small river that required a little more awareness but  Dyl enjoyed it all.  Dyl has been swimming a number of years but always worried about being out of his depth or falling off boats and things. This really developed his confidence and to see him standing up paddling alone was a really great moment for me.

The Stand Up Paddle was arranged through www.supland.fr with prices for a family group for 1 ½ hours with guided trip is 25€ pp and to rent a board 12€ per hour.

Molites have plenty to offer for young people and being a family of five with two teens we need activities to give everyone the best holiday.  To have a great family holiday myself I need to know that my children are having fun and gaining new experiences. Travel is a gift and I want the children to look forward to their family holiday.  i know that we don’t have many years left where especially Chloe will be coming away with us.  Therefore fiinding holidays that meet the needs of us all is very important when choosing a location and accomodation and Madame Vacances certainly ticked those boxes!

Do keep an eye out for the next post on our trip as we cannot wait to share our vlog with you, where you will see all we got up to and even some of things Dyl ate!!
