The sun was shining over the weekend which made a pleasant surprise and allowed us to get in the garden and start tidying it up. I love it once the clocks have turned and we are able to spend some time in the garden in the evenings. Lee and I have vowed to get out more in the evenings after work and last week we watched Dyl’s evening football match which was pleasant and last night we actually went for a walk before settling down to watch a film. It is all part of the plan to spend less time online and on the laptop each evening!
The garden is becoming a much prettier place for years it was given over to the children for their trampoline, football goal and an array of scooters and balls. However we are slowly reclaiming the garden and aim to make it a more grown up area this year. Last year we bought some new garden furniture and had the patio done. This year I aim to inject some colour into the area too. I have put together a wishlist of items I would like to add. We actually have the hanging chair and it is one of my favourite places to curl up with a book in the summer. The sun lounger from Fishpools is also on my wishlist as i want to be able to stretch out and feel the sun on me.
The colourful pots are from Next along with the garden spikes and these add a feminine touch and splash of colour. I want the garden to be an oasis of calm which is why I like the blue hues in the pots and also in the bug hotel.
Erin loves gardening and welcoming wildlife into the garden would be wonderful and educational for her. Bird feeders and bug hotels attract the local wildlife and again this adds colour and visitors to the garden. We actually have lots of squirrels that frequent our garden because we have really tall tress surrounding the house.
We have just planted a selection of hardy plants in the garden which look great. I choose hardy plants that flower throughout the summer but that will come back year after year. This is more cost effective and practical. I don’t really want to spend ages cultivating plants but I want splashes of colour to brighten up the garden.
